In its biggest challenge of the Suburban Council season, the Niskayuna boys lacrosse team scored four times in the fourth quarter to defeat Shaker 8-4 Saturday, May 4.
The Silver Warriors grabbed a 3-1 lead in the first quarter, only to see Shaker pull even by halftime. After the teams traded goals in the third quarter, Niskayuna took control to remain undefeated in the league.
Drew Collins had a hat trick, and Griffin King contributed two goals and two assists for the Silver Warriors. Brock Behrman added a goal and three assists, and goaltender Drew D’Alliard made eight saves.
Four players scored goals for Shaker, and Matt Calicchia jumped in with two assists. Ryan Mazzariello had eight saves between the posts for the Blue Bison.
Elsewhere in the Suburban Council, Ballston Spa handled Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 15-2. Ethan Thomas tallied four times for the Scotties, who built a 6-0 halftime lead. Antonio Rossetti, Lucas Bennice, Jake Koszelak and Peyton Walsh all had multi-goal games, with Rossetti picking up a hat trick. Goalie Gregg Dort made 12 saves.
Holden Comley and J.D. Townsend scored Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake’s goals, and goalie Chris Serafini stopped 17 shots.
In a non-league game, Voorheesville defeated Amsterdam 10-5. Ian Owens led the Blackbirds with a five-goal afternoon, and goalie Evan O’Connor had eight saves.
Goalie Matt Johnson turned aside 16 shots for Amsterdam. Joe Cerda, Aaron Rackowski, Kolby Fifield, Kye Desbiens and Anthony Barone-Lopez tallied for the Rugged Rams.
