Suburban Council baseball: Nick Szesnat pitches Shaker past Shenendehowa

Nick Szesnat tossed a two-hit shutout to lead Shaker to a 6-0 victory over Shenendehowa Wednesday, May 8, in a Suburban Council baseball game.

Szesnat struck out nine batters and walked one to pick up the victory. The junior had an 18-22 first pitch strike rate and induced seven groundouts.

Shen pitcher Brendan Disonell cruised through the first three innings before running into trouble in the bottom of the fourth inning. Matt Snyder worked a one-out walk, advanced to second base on a passed ball and scored on an error to give Shaker a 1-0 lead.

Snyder drove in a run on a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Blue Bison a 2-0 advantage. Disonell struck out Julian Thompson, but then allowed consecutive walks to Alanzo Barrett and Justin Osborn to increase Shaker’s lead to 4-0. Patrick Walters completed the five-run rally for Shaker with a two-run single.

Patrick McGuire and Jake Reinisch were the Shen players to get a hit off Szesnat. Thomas Krill was the lone Plainsman to reach base on a walk.
