Local teams shine at New York State High School Rowing Championships

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Christian Brothers Academy’s Connor Toomey and Bethlehem’s Christian Sauer were among a group of Section 2 rowers who excelled at the New York State High School Championships May 11 and 12 on Fish Creek.

Competing for Saratoga Rowing Association, Toomey and Sauer defended their state title in the Varsity Men’s Pair with a winning time of 5:13.4 and helped SRA take first place in the Varsity Men’s Four with a time of 5:02.4. In the process, Toomey and Sauer qualified for the national championships, which take place June 7-9 in Sarasota, Fla.

Several other Section 2 teams won titles at the state championships, including:

Burnt Hills Rowing Association – Women’s Freshman Quad Petit; Men’s U15 Coxed Quad

Niskayuna Rowing – Women’s Freshman Quad; Men’s Freshman Quad; Men’s Varsity Eight Petit; Women’s Junior Quad; Men’s Junior Double (11th grade and under) Petit; Women’s U15 Coxed Quad

Albany Rowing Center – Men’s Varsity Single Petit; Women’s Varsity Four Petit

Saratoga Rowing Association – Women’s Freshman Eight; Men’s Varsity Double Petit; Men’s Varsity Double; Men’s Lightweight Quad; Men’s Junior Quad (11th grade and younger); Men’s Junior Double (11th grade and under); Women’s 2v Eight; Women’s Juniors Eight; Women’s U17 Quad

Mohawk Homeschool Rowing Association – Women’s Junior Double

Friends of Shenendehowa Crew – Men’s Varsity Four Petit
