Niskayuna receives No. 1 seed for Section 2 Class A boys lacrosse playoffs

The state’s top-ranked Class A public school boys lacrosse team received the top seed for the Section 2 playoffs Friday, May 17.

Undefeated Niskayuna (15-0) will face No. 8 Colonie in Saturday’s quarterfinal round. The winner of that game meets either No. 4 Saratoga Springs or No. 5 Shaker in the semifinals Tuesday, May 21.

Niskayuna is currently ranked second in the New York State Sportswriters Association poll – trailing only No. 1 Chaminade from New York City’s Catholic High School Athletic Association. Massapequa from Section 8 (Long Island) is the second-highest rated New York State Public High School Athletic Association team in the poll at No. 4. Bethlehem (13-2) – ranked 16th in this week’s poll – is the other ranked Section 2 team in Class A.

Ballston Spa (Class B), LaSalle (Class C) and Schuylerville (Class D) are the other No. 1 seeds in the Section 2 boys lacrosse playoffs. Ballston Spa is ranked 13th among Class B teams in the state poll, while Schuylerville is rated 10th in the Class D poll.

Quarterfinals (Saturday, May 18)
No. 8 Colonie at No. 1 Niskayuna, 3 p.m.
No. 5 Shaker at No. 4 Saratoga Springs, 10 a.m.
No. 7 Guilderland at No. 2 Bethlehem, 11 a.m.
No. 6 Christian Brothers Academy at No. 3 Shenendehowa, noon

Semifinals – Tuesday, May 21

Finals – Friday, May 24, at Columbia High School (6:30 p.m.)

Class B
Quarterfinals (Saturday, May 18)
No. 5 Troy at No. 4 Columbia, 10 a.m.

Semifinals (Tuesday, May 21)
Troy/Columbia at No. 1 Ballston Spa, 4:15 p.m.
No. 3 Burnt Hills/Ballston Lake at No. 2 Queensbury, 5 p.m.

Finals – Friday, May 24, at Columbia (4 p.m.)

Quarterfinals (Saturday, May 18)
No. 5 Scotia-Glenville at No. 4 Averill Park, 2 p.m.
