Scenes from Section 2 girls lacrosse finals: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake claims Class C title

ROTTERDAM – Isabell Adams and MK Lescault led Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake to a 13-5 victory over Averill Park in the Section 2 Class C girls lacrosse final Wednesday, May 22, at Mohonasen High School.

Adams and Lescault each tallied once to give the Lady Spartans a quick 2-0 lead. The Warriors got one goal back on a breakaway by Anita Reitano, but Adams struck again to make it a 3-1 game for BH-BL.

Adams finished with five goals and two assists, while Lescault contributed a hat trick and three assists for BH-BL, which won its third consecutive Sectional title and its first under head coach John Battaglino. Carly Szczepaniak and Ella Blesi each added a pair of goals. Reitano tallied twice for Averill Park.

Battaglino’s former high school team, Bethlehem, ended a 13-year title drought by defeating Shenendehowa 15-12 in the Class A final. Avery Jones had a five-goal game, and Caroline Wise chipped in with three goals and three assists for the Lady Eagles. Lindsey Ayres also had a hat trick in the victory.

McKenzie Ballard paced Shen’s attack with four goals, and Grace Paolowodzinski recorded a hat trick.

Bethlehem’s last title came in 2006, which capped a string of six consecutive Section 2 championships under Battaglino. Shortly thereafter, Battaglino moved on to the collegiate coaching ranks, working at Syracuse University and the University at Albany before departing after the 2017 season.
