DUAL MEET CHAMPIONS
Shenendehowa defeated Ballston Spa to win the Division 1 Dual Meet Championship, while Cobleskill-Richmondville claimed the Division 2 team title. Both schools advance to the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Dual Meet Championships Feb. 1 at the SRC Arena and Events Center in Syracuse.
Tonight’s limited schedule features the Foothills Council showdown between Queensbury and Amsterdam. Both teams enter tonight’s match with 5-0 league records.
Thursday provides a full slate of action in the Suburban Council, the Western Athletic Conference, the Adirondack League and the Colonial Council. The big match is in the WAC, where Duanesburg puts its 3-0 league record on the line against Fonda-Fultonville/Johnstown. Pay attention to the 126-pound match between Duanesburg’s Austin Lints (28-2) and Fonda/Johnstown’s Owen Hicks (24-7). That could be the showdown within the showdown.
Another match to watch is the battle for Rotterdam supremacy between Schalmont and Mohonasen. The Mighty Warriors are one of two undefeated Colonial Council squads (Cobleskill-Richmondville being the other), while Schalmont is 11-5 overall, despite owning a 3-3 record against league competition.
Mohonasen is led by junior Jacob Deguire (138 pounds), who reached the 110-win mark for his career by winning three matches at the Eastern States Classic Jan. 10. Deguire could face off against Schalmont’s Tyler Stuart, who owns a 23-3 record this season. Another possible match-up to watch is at 99 pounds, where Schalmont’s Caleb Kenfield (23-3) takes on one of Mohonasen’s top lightweights – Clayton O’Connor (23-5) or Jordyn Hill (25-3).
