No. 1 seed Fort Edward survived a defensive battle against Adirondack League rival Whitehall to move on with a 38-27 victory. The Flying Forts built a 17-13 halftime lead before gradually pulling away from the eighth-seeded Railroaders.

SARATOGA SPRINGS – Section 2 announced its brackets for this year’s girls basketball tournament Wednesday, Feb. 13.
Shenendehowa (Class AA), Averill Park (Class A), Tamarac (Class B), Cambridge (Class C) and Fort Edward (Class D) are the No. 1 seeds in their respective brackets. Shen, Averill Park and Fort Edward received byes into the quarterfinals.

Key three-pointers in the fourth quarter from Madison Graham and Madison Kawalski fueled Ichabod Crane’s 60-48 victory at Stillwater in a non-league girls basketball game Wednesday, Jan. 23.
Kawalski drained a pair of threes, and Graham scored eight of her game-high 24 points in the final quarter for the Riders. Riley Paul also hit a three-pointer in the final stanza – one of six threes by Ichabod Crane in the contest. Northville outscored Salem 38-16 over the course of the second and third quarters on its way to a 58-44 victory over the Generals Monday, Jan. 7, in a non-league boys basketball game.
Nate Reidell led the Falcons with 19 points, including four three-pointers. Jason Ellsworth had a double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds, and T.J. NORTHVILLE – A hot start helped the Northville boys basketball team take command on its way to an 82-24 non-league victory over Heatly Wednesday, Nov. 28.
The Falcons jumped out to a 32-1 lead in the first quarter, and they never looked back as they won their home opener.
Nate Reidell scored 32 points to lead three Northville players in double digits. T.J. Wadsworth contributed 18 points, and Jason Ellsworth added 10 points and seven rebounds. Ricky Boyd paced Heatly with 14 points.
Northville meets Sharon Springs Saturday at the Coaches vs. Cancer Tip-Off Classic at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
No. 8 Mekeel Christian Academy and No. 7 Whitehall advanced to the Section 2 Class D girls soccer quarterfinals with opening round victories Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Mekeel Christian dispatched No. 9 Heatly 6-2 at Maalwyck Park in Scotia. Michaela Van Slyck recorded a hat trick and an assist for the Lions, while Mia Biscossi, Bella Biscossi and Madison Show all adding goals. Bella Biscossi also had an assist, as did Bella Harrigan, Olivia Bowman and Jo Galarneau. Brackets for the Section 2 girls soccer playoffs were announced Monday, Oct. 15, and two Suburban Council teams were among the five No. 1 seeds.
Bethlehem received the No. 1 seed in Class AA after winning the Blue Division title, while Averill Park claimed the No. 1 seed in Class A after finishing first in the Gray Division. Colonial Council champion Academy of the Holy Names (Class B), Wasaren League champion Stillwater (Class C) and Adirondack League runner-up Fort Ann (Class D) were the other three No. 1 seeds.

Four different players scored goals for Whitehall in a 5-3 victory over Heatly in a non-league girls soccer game Friday, Aug. 31.
Zoe Eggleston tallied twice to lead the Railroaders. Chloe Rehm contributed a goal and an assist, while Madison Minor and Jessica Moore added individual goals.
Morgan Razzano had a goal and two assists for Heatly. Maddy Zakarewski and Kaitlin Barrett also tallied.
