Section 2 baseball: Shenendehowa scores six runs in the ninth to defeat Niskayuna for Class AA title

TROY – A pitcher’s duel turned into a runaway victory for Shenendehowa.

The Plainsmen scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Niskayuna 7-1 for the Section 2 Class AA baseball title Monday, June 3 at Joseph Bruno Stadium.

Jake Reinisch got the ninth-inning rally started with an RBI triple to plate pinch runner C.J. Latham with the go-ahead run. Niskayuna nearly got out of the jam allowing just the one run, but back-to-back bases-loaded singles by Sam Law and Patrick McGuire plated three more runs. Law and McGuire then scored on a wild pitch by Cole Hedden to give the Plainsmen a 7-1 lead. Section 2 baseball quarterfinals: Niskayuna, Shen advance in Class AA

Top-seeded Niskayuna scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning on its way to a 10-4 victory over No. 8 Bethlehem in the Section 2 Class AA baseball quarterfinals Saturday, May 25.

Aaron Whitley and Chris Erickson each homered to lead Niskayuna’s 12-hit attack. Whitley finished with three hits, while Erickson went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Starting pitcher Cole Hedden helped his own cause with two doubles and three RBI.

Suburban Council baseball: Niskayuna edges CBA in eight innings

Tommy Stewart’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Niskayuna a 7-6 victory over Christian Brothers Academy Monday, May 20, in a Suburban Council baseball game.

Peter O’Toole’s three-run homer highlighted CBA’s four-run seventh inning rally that tied the score at 6-6. But, Niskayuna got the winning run across to close out its regular season with a 12-4 league record and an overall record of 13-5.

Aaron Whitley posted a four-hit afternoon for Niskayuna, including a two-run homer and a two-run triple. Baseball: Niskayuna walks off against Colonie in Suburban Council battle

Jacob Hand’s RBI single capped a three-run seventh inning rally for Niskayuna in a 4-3 victory over Colonie Saturday, May 18, in Niskayuna.

Colonie scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 3-1 lead, only to see Niskayuna tie the score on Aaron Whitely’s triple. Hand then singled in Whitley to give the Silver Warriors their 11th Suburban Council victory of the season.

Sam Morra earned the complete-game victory for Niskayuna, scattering seven hits and striking out 10 batters. Patrick Reilly suffered the loss for Colonie, pitching 6.2 innings and allowing nine hits against six strikeouts. Suburban Council baseball: Niskayuna remains undefeated in league play with victory over Schenectady

Niskayuna scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull away for an 11-4 victory over Schenectady Wednesday, April 17, in a Suburban Council baseball game.

Aaron Whitley belted a three-run homer to highlight the Silver Warriors’ scoring spurt. Chris Erickson doubled, tripled and drove in three runs, while James Murphy, Tim Schaffer and Jack Murray all contributed a pair of hits.

Suburban Council baseball: Niskayuna rallies past Averill Park

Niskayuna overcame a shaky start to defeat Averill Park 6-4 Wednesday, April 10, in a Suburban Council baseball game.

Scenes from Section 2 Class AA football: Big plays give Niskayuna a victory over Bethlehem

DELMAR – Two big plays helped Niskayuna pull away for a 26-17 victory over Bethlehem Saturday, Oct. 13, in a Section 2 Class AA football game.

After Derek Martelle’s 32-yard touchdown run helped the Eagles (3-4) tie the score at 7-7 in the first quarter, Aaron Whitley returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown to put the Silver Warriors (3-4) in front again. Then in the second quarter, Dan Brownell connected with Richie Quinn on a 69-yard touchdown pass to increase Niskayuna’s lead to 20-7. Section 2 Class AA football: Niskayuna hangs on in overtime to defeat Colonie

NISKAYUNA – It was a surreal ending to an exciting football game Friday, Oct. 5, at Niskayuna High School.

Scenes from Section 2 Class AA football: Niskayuna edges Colonie in overtime

NISKAYUNA – Dan Brownell’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Whitley and a successful extra point kick in overtime helped Niskayuna edge Colonie 34-33 Friday, Oct. 5, in a Section 2 Class AA football game.

Colonie quarterback Shai Young pulled his team within one point with a 7-yard touchdown run, but the Garnet Raiders failed on their two-point conversion attempt.
