Track and field: McKinley Wheeler wins two titles at New Balance Nationals

CARY, N.C. – McKinley Wheeler’s first trip to the New Balance Nationals track and field meet led to a pair of titles.

The Saratoga Springs eighth-grader won the middle school girls 2-mile race in a battle with her twin sister, Sheridan. Then, she teamed up with Sophie Tesla, Ella Kurto and Kelsey Chmiel to win the girls championship 4×1 mile relay.

The Wheeler twins led a strong contingent of Section 2 runners in the middle school girls 2-mile run. McKinley finished with a winning time of 11:04.58, while Sheridan placed second with a time of 11:08.24. Shaker’s Kaleigh Higgins was third with a time of 11:21.03, and Greenwich’s Teagan Wright took 13th place with a time of 12:01.50. Cross country: Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys dominate Suburban Council quad meet with Colonie, Columbia and Guilderland

GUILDERLAND – Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake runners took the top four places to dominate a Suburban Council quad meet against Colonie, Columbia and Guilderland Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Tawasentha Park.

The Spartans defeated Colonie 15-50, Columbia 16-45 and Guilderland 18-39 in the boys race. Guilderland’s girls team swept its opponents by scores of 21-36 over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, 26-29 over Colonie and 23-34 over Columbia. Cross country: Shaker girls win South Glens Falls Killian Invitational

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Shaker claimed first place in the Girls Varsity division, and Saranac Lake won the boys division title at the South Glens Falls Killian Invitational Saturday, Sept. 29.

Kaleigh Higgins and Leoni Griffin swept the top two places to lead Shaker’s girls team. Higgins won the individual title with a time of 18:14.28, and Griffin took second place with a time of 18:23.09. Continue reading “Cross country: Shaker girls win South Glens Falls Killian Invitational”
