Queensbury, Schalmont boys soccer teams fall in state semifinals

MIDDLETOWN – Queensbury and Schalmont fell in the semifinals of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association boys soccer tournament Saturday, Nov. 10.

Queensbury, which entered as the top-ranked Class A team in the state, lost to Somers (Section 1) 2-1 in its semifinal contest. Lucas Fecci and John Riina scored for Somers, while Aidan Jordi-Donnelly had a second-half goal for Queensbury.

Schalmont fell to Section 3 champion Westhil 3-1 in the Class B semifinals. Mark Etoll, Jack Grooms and Braden Krzykowski notched goals for Westhill, while Devin Renaud tallied for Schalmont.

Boys soccer regionals: Schalmont advances on penalty kicks; Queensbury defeats Fulton

Schalmont (Class B) and Queensbury (Class A) will represent Section 2 at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Boys Soccer Tournament this weekend in Middletown after they won regional titles Saturday, Nov. 3.

Schalmont tied Section 7’s Peru 2-2 in their regional, but punched its ticket to the state semifinals by edging Peru 4-3 in penalty kicks. Jared Smith hit the go-ahead penalty kick for the Sabres, and goalkeeper Ryan Taylor made a diving block with his feet on Tanner Spear’s attempt to end the session.

Peru scored twice in the first 14 minutes to take an early lead on Schalmont, but Ryan Edwards tallied with less than 17 minutes left in the first half to trim the deficit to 2-1. Scenes from Section 2 boys soccer playoffs: Queensbury reigns supreme in Class A with a convincing win in the finals

COLONIE – Top-seeded Queensbury scored three times in the second half to pull away for a 4-0 victory over Ballston Spa in the Section 2 Class A boys soccer final Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Colonie Central High School.

Teddy Borgos gave the Spartans – New York State’s top-ranked Class A team – a 1-0 lead late in the first half when he converted a penalty kick. Ray Jones headed in a pass from Aidan Jordi-Donnelly eight minutes into the second half to double Queensbury’s advantage, and then Jordi-Donnelly finished a give-and-go with Borgos with a goal to make the score 3-0.

Asa Edwards finished the scoring for Queensbury with a goal off a pass from Borgos, who finished the evening with three points (one goal, two assists).

Queensbury, Ballston Spa advance to the Section 2 Class A boys soccer finals

COLONIE – No. 6 seed Ballston Spa will look for one more upset when it takes on top-seeded Queensbury in Saturday’s Section 2 Class A boys soccer final.

Ballston Spa advanced with a 1-0 semifinal victory over No. 2 Albany Academy Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Colonie Central High School, while Queensbury sailed past No. 4 South Glens Falls 3-0 in the other semifinal. Section 2 Class A boys soccer: Queensbury gets past stubborn Scotia-Glenville; Ballston Spa edges Averill Park

Top-seeded Queensbury (16-1-0) pulled out a 3-0 victory over No. 8 Scotia-Glenville in the Section 2 Class B boys soccer quarterfinals Friday, Oct. 19.

The Tartans (10-8-0) pressured Queensbury’s defense several times in the first half,  but could not get anything into the goal. The Spartans got on the scoreboard less than one minute before halftime when Aidan Jordi-Donnelly fed a through ball to Teddy Borgos, who promptly kicked it into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Foothills Council boys soccer: Teddy Borgos adds to his goal total in Queensbury’s win over Glens Falls; Gloversville edges Amsterdam

Teddy Borgos followed up his seven-goal performance against Scotia-Glenville with a four-goal afternoon in Queensbury’s 7-1 victory over Glens Falls Wednesday, Oct. 10, in a Foothills Council boys soccer game.

Queensbury’s seniors also performed well in their final home game of the regular season. Lorenzo Cicogna had a goal and an assist, Aidan Jordi-Donnelly contributed three assists and Ray Jones added a goal for the Spartans (12-0-0 league, 14-1-0 overall). Sam Rowley also tallied, and Alex Roca chipped in with two assists. Foothills Council boys soccer: Six quick goals clinches league title for Queensbury

The Queensbury boys soccer team clinched the Foothills Council regular season title with an 11-0 victory over Scotia-Glenville Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The North Division-leading Spartans (11-0-0 league, 13-1-0 overall) scored six goals in the first 14 minutes of the game, and they never looked back as they cruised past the South Division-leading Tartans (6-5-0, 8-6-0).

Teddy Borgos struck for seven goals, and Peter Crawford contributed three assists to lead Queensbury’s offense. Aidan Jordi-Donnelly, Drew Crawford, Sam Rowley and Asa Edwards also tallied for the Spartans, and Alex Roca chipped in with two assists.

Scotia-Glenville goalkeeper Dominic Jack had eight saves.

Foothills Council boys soccer: Queensbury remains perfect in league with win over Amsterdam; Hudson Falls ends skid with victory over Broadalbin-Perth

League-leading Queensbury withstood Amsterdam goalkeeper Ian Healy’s outstanding performance to defeat the Rugged Rams 3-1 Thursday, Oct. 4, in a Foothills Council boys soccer game.

Healy kept the Spartans (10-0-0 league, 12-1-0 overall) off the scoreboard in the first half and finished the game with 19 saves. However, he couldn’t stem the tide forever, as Queensbury pulled ahead on goals by Peter Crawford and Teddy Borgos in the final 21 minutes. Foothills Council boys soccer: Two early goals by Aidan Jordi-Donnelly kickstart Queensbury against Hudson Falls

HUDSON FALLS – Aidan Jordi-Donnelly struck twice within the first 18 minutes of the game to help Queensbury defeat Hudson Falls 7-0 Wednesday, Oct. 3, in a Foothills Council boys soccer game.

Jordi-Donnelly scored unassisted at the 12:49 mark to get the Spartans (9-0-0 league, 11-1-0 overall) on the scoreboard. Less than five minutes later, Jordi-Donnelly received a pass from Jared Osika and tallied to make the score 2-0.

Peter Crawford and Teddy Borgos scored goals in the final three minutes of the first half to give Queensbury – the state’s No. 1-ranked Class B boys soccer team – a 4-0 advantage at halftime. Lorenzo Cicogna, Riley Grant and Asa Edwards added goals in the second half.

Goalkeepers Justin Fenton and Joey Potvin stopped a combined total of 11 shots for Hudson Falls (4-6-0, 6-7-0).

Foothills Council boys soccer: Queensbury remains unbeaten in the league with victory over South Glens Falls

Queensbury remained the only undefeated boys soccer team in the Foothills Council with a 2-0 victory over South Glens Falls Wednesday, Sept. 19.

The state’s top-ranked Class A squad overcame a shaky start against South High (4-3 league, 5-5 overall) and got the game’s first goal when Peter Crawford scored off a feed from Aidan Jordi-Donnelly a little more than two minutes before halftime. Brendan Duffy added an insurance goal with less than 14 minutes left in regulation for the Spartans (7-0, 9-1).
