Section 2 represented on New York State Sportswriters Association’s All-State softball team

Several Section 2 players were first-team selections in their respective classes on this year’s New York State Sportswriters Association All-State softball team.

Shenendehowa outfielder Emily Carroll (Class AA), Ballston Spa’s Lauren Kersch and Angelina Stile (Class A), South Glens Falls’ Leah Vanderwarker (Class A), Ichabod Crane’s Bella Milazzo and Gabbie Cox (Class B), Lake George pitcher Tyler Bergman (Class C), Chatham pitcher Jenna Skype (Class C), Whitehall pitcher Madison Gould (Class D) and Fort Ann pitcher Kayla Bailey (Class D) earned first-team honors.

Ballston Spa runs out of gas in state softball final

After winning the longest game in New York State Public High School Athletic Association softball tournament history, Ballston Spa fell to Section 6’s Williamsville East 3-0 in the Class A final Saturday at Moreau Recreational Park.

Williamsville East hit two home runs to start the the fifth inning, and Summer Clark recorded nine consecutive outs to seal the victory.

To get to the final, Ballston Spa outlasted Sayville (Section 11) 2-1 in a 20-inning epic that shattered the previous record for the longest game at the state tournament by seven innings. Ana Gold smacked an RBI single in the bottom of the 20th inning to propel the Scotties into the final for the second consecutive year.
