Saturday, Feb. 2, was championship day for the five classes in Section 2 wrestling.
The Class A, B, C, CC and D tournaments took place around the region. The results help determine the majority of the field for this weekend’s Section 2 Division 1 (large school) and Division 2 (small school) championships, which take place at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.

Ballston Spa took the team title at Saturday’s Section 2 Class B wrestling championships at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School. The Scotties finished with 224 points, while the host Spartans placed second with 205.5 points.
Nick Palso (99 pounds), James Prastio (160) and Jacob Stangle (285) earned individual titles for Ballston Spa. BH-BL also had three individual champions – John DeConno (120), Jakai Townsend (170) and Vincent Daviero (182) – while Queensbury and Averill Park each had a pair of wrestlers who won their weight classes. The field is set for the Section 2 Dual Meet Wrestling Championships Tuesday, Jan. 15.
In Division 1, Shenendehowa received the No. 1 seed and the right to host the tournament. The Plainsmen will face No. 4 Queensbury, while No. 2 Columbia combats No. 3 Ballston Spa.
The Division 2 tournament takes place at Warrensburg, where the top-seeded Burghers wrestle No. 4 Whitehall/Fort Ann and No. 2 Watervliet takes on No. 3 Hadley-Luzerne/Lake George.

Three wrestlers won their weight classes to lead Queensbury to a first-place finish at its own holiday tournament Friday, Dec. 28.
Ryan Sleezer (113 pounds), Trevor Robbins (126) and Luke Little (145) earned individual titles for the Spartans, who cruised to the team championship with 218.5 points. Ryan defeated his identical twin brother, Dylan, 7-5 in the finals, while Robbins posted the same score in defeating Vincent Santilli of South Glens Falls. Little pinned Corinth’s Sam Tromblee 48 seconds into the second period of their championship bout.
Hadley-Luzerne/Lake George also had three individual champions, as heavyweights Cody York (182 pounds, Cameron Duers (195) and William Mitcham (285) won in the finals. York needed 14 seconds to pin Corinth’s Ray Procter, while Duers scored a late pin to defeat Queensbury’s Seth Guay. Mitcham edged New Hartford’s Austin Bullock 2-0 to win his championship match. Shenendehowa gained the upper hand in the race for the Suburban Council’s best record by beating Ballston Spa 42-29 in a league wrestling match Wednesday, Dec. 12.
Three pins and a technical fall helped the Plainsmen defeat one of their closest rivals. Antonio Lomascolo (126 pounds), Brandon Fahr (182) and Sebastian Underwood (220) recorded the falls, while Brock Delsignore (145) earned the technical fall.

Three pins and two technical falls helped Ballston Spa defeat Saratoga Springs 42-28 in a Suburban Council wrestling match Wednesday, Dec. 5.
James Prastio’s technical fall against David Wilk in a 170-pound weight class match and Peter Hansen’s second-period pin against Spencer Cornell at 182 pounds highlighted 20-point run within the mach that gave the Scotties a 30-16 lead against the Blue Streaks. Gennaro DeRobertis (126 pounds) and Jacob Stangle (285) also recorded pins for Ballston Spa.
