Section 2 boys basketball playoffs: Hudson Falls, Cambridge among opening round winners

No. 17 Hudson Falls went on a 23-8 run in the second quarter and held on for a 58-56 victory over No. 16 Cohoes in the opening round of the Section 2 Class B boys basketball playoffs Saturday, Feb. 15.

Riley Maddison netted 18 points, and Johnathan Beagle contributed 14 points for Hudson Falls, which led 32-23 at halftime. Troy Snyder and Jonathan LaSure each knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 18 points apiece for Cohoes. Hudson Falls advances to face No. 1 Schalmont Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Rotterdam.

In the other Class B opening-round game, No. 15 Greenville defeated No. 18 Broadalbin-Perth 71-51 to move on to the first round against No. 2 Glens Falls. Damien Fiducia netted 32 points for the Spartans, who led 22-11 after the first quarter. Keenan Mulholland sank five three-pointers to finish with 15 points.

WAC boys basketball: Northville, Fort Plain and Berne-Knox-Westerlo win crossover games

The Western Athletic Conference held crossover boys basketball games Saturday, Feb. 9, at Fulton Montgomery Community College.

In the first game of the triple header, Northville cruised past Middleburgh 62-37. The Falcons raced out to a 15-6 lead in the first quarter and pulled away by outscoring the Knights 17-7 in the third quarter.

T.J. Wadsworth drained six three-pointers and finished with 21 points to lead Northville’s offense. Nate Reidell knocked down an additional four three-pointers on his way to a 17-point afternoon, and Jason Ellsworth added 14 points for the Falcons.

WAC boys basketball: Mayfield surges past Northville

Garrett Delaney led four Mayfield players in double figures with 18 points as the Panthers defeated Northville 64-46 Friday, Jan. 18, in a Western Athletic Conference boys basketball game.

The Falcons (1-7 league, 6-9 overall) led 16-14 after the first quarter, but the Panthers scored 21 points in the second quarter to grab a four-point halftime lead and pulled away by scoring the final 11 points of the game. Continue reading “WAC boys basketball: Mayfield surges past Northville”

Scenes from WAC boys basketball: Jakob Stahl leads Duanesburg past Berne-Knox-Westerlo

DELANSON – Jakob Stahl had himself a game for the Duanesburg boys basketball team.

Stahl made four three-pointers on his way to a 25-point evening as he led the Eagles to a 53-43 victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo Friday, Jan. 4, in a Western Athletic Conference contest.

Boys basketball: West Genesee edges Shenendehowa in Hoops for the Hospital Tournament final

West Genesee (Section 3) rallied from a 14-point deficit in the fourth quarter and pulled out a 49-48 overtime victory over Shenendehowa in the finals of the Hoops for the Hospital boys basketball tournament Friday, Dec. 28, at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse.

The Plainsmen used an 18-7 run in the second quarter to help build a 37-23 lead going into the final period. However, West Genesee outscored Shen 20-6 in the last eight minutes to force overtime.

Shen’s Jake Reinisch led all scorers with 20 points, while two West Genesee players combined to score 28 points.

Shen advanced to the finals with a 50-36 victory over Fairport (Section 5) Thursday, Dec. 27. James Altenburger netted 15 points, while Reinisch and Lucas Seyoum each added 11 points for the Plainsmen, who sealed the victory with an 18-9 run in the fourth quarter.
