SARATOGA SPRINGS – Schuylerville finished on top of a competitive field in the girls race, and Scotia-Glenville won the boys team title at Monday’s Foothills Council Cross Country Championships at Saratoga Spa State Park.
In a race where the top five girls teams were separated by 23 points, Schuylerville prevailed by placing three runners in the top 15 to finish with 76 points. Sunni LaBounty claimed the individual title for the Black Horses by finishing in a time of 19:10.73, while teammates Anya Vautrin (seventh place, 20:23.98) and Megan Vianese (11th, 20:45.51) were among 14 runners who posted sub 21-minute times. Despite being shorthanded, the Broadalbin-Perth boys and girls cross country teams performed well at the Burnt Hills Invitational Saturday, Oct. 13, at Saratoga Spa State Park.
Broadalbin-Perth placed ninth in the Division II girls team standings with 261 points. Gabby Larsen led the Patriots with a 13th-place finish in a time of 20:12.4. Samantha Murphy (35th place, 21:00.3), Emma Frasier (43rd, 21:17.3) and Lauren Phillips (48th, 21:33.0) also cracked the top 50.
Similarly, the Broadalbin-Perth boys finished ninth in the Varsity II team standings with 285 points. Danny Dylong (39th place, 17:46.1) and Preston Hadley (41st, 17:47.3) finished in the top 50, while Wyatt Couperus (52nd, 17:57.4) barely missed placing in the top 50.
“Today was a test for us, as we ran shorthanded on both sides,” said Broadalbin-Perth head coach Jeff Richards. “Unlike the Killian Invitational [two weeks earlier], this time our team rose to the challenge and passed with flying colors. Others filled the shoes of their missing teammates and kept our packs strong.”
Amsterdam and Broadalbin-Perth each took a team victory at their Foothills Council duel meet Tuesday, Oct. 9.

SCHENECTADY – How “sweep” it was for the Shaker boys and girls cross country teams at this year’s Grout Run Saturday, Oct. 6, at Schenectady’s Central Park.
The Shaker girls fended off Bethlehem 34-42 for the Varsity Division I championship, while the Shaker boys eased past Schenectady 26-54 in the Varsity Division II race.

SCHENECTADY – The annual Grout Run took place Saturday, Oct. 6, at Schenectady’s Central Park. More than 20 teams from around New York State ran on the 2.75-mile road course in and around the park.

SOUTH GLENS FALLS – Shaker claimed first place in the Girls Varsity division, and Saranac Lake won the boys division title at the South Glens Falls Killian Invitational Saturday, Sept. 29.

The Broadalbin-Perth cross country team got a preview of what the New York State Public High School Athletic Association state course would be like when it ran at the Bob Pratt Invitational Saturday, Sept. 22, at Sunken Meadow State Park on Long Island.
The boys team fared well, finishing 12th out of 30 teams in the Varsity B race with 374 points. The girls team took 17th place in the Varsity B division with 448 points. The Broadalbin-Perth boys cross country team finished first among Section 2 schools and took fifth place overall in the Varsity-Division II race at the Queensbury Invitational Saturday, Sept. 15.

GUILDERLAND – The annual Guilderland Invitational cross country meet took place Saturday, Sept. 8, at Tawasentha Park. Approximately a dozen schools participated in the meet, including Guilderland, Averill Park and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake of the Suburban Council; Broadalbin-Perth and Schuylerville of the Foothills Council; Ichabod Crane and Mohonasen from the Colonial Council; and Chatham from the Patroon Conference.
