Canajoharie scored four times in the second half to pull out a 5-3 Western Athletic Conference boys soccer victory over Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons Sept. 4.
Canajoharie took a 2-0 lead on a first-half goal by Brian Greenslette and a tally by Cody Haig early in the second half. ND-BG tied the score at 2-2 on goals by Connor Barber and Nick Gosh, but Alex Blanchard put the Cougars back in the lead with a goal. Haig struck for his second goal a short time later to notch the eventual game winner.

The quarterfinal field is set in the Section 2 Class C boys soccer playoffs following Thursday’s opening round.
No. 6 Greenwich (9-6-2) dispatched No. 22 Canajoharie 8-2 in Greenwich. The Cougars (2-14-2) got on the scoreboard first on Walfre Vasquez’s goal three minutes into the first half, but the Witches scored eight unanswered goals to end Canajoharie’s upset bid.
Charlie Gartner recorded a hat trick, and Liam Kelleher contributed a goal and an assist for Greenwich. AJ Rymph, Bill Bink, Hunter Dixson and Connor Smith also tallied for the Witches. No. 17 Catholic Central and No. 13 Schoharie were among six teams advancing through the preliminary round of the Section 2 Class C boys soccer playoffs Tuesday, Oct. 16.
Lucas Kania had a hat trick to lead Catholic Central (5-12-0) to a 7-1 victory over No. 16 Saratoga Central Catholic. Liam McDonald contributed a pair of goals, and Joe Piperata added a goal and two assists for the Crusaders, who will meet top-seeded Lake George Thursday, Oct. 18.

CANAJOHARIE – Noah Fagnani recorded a hat trick to lead Schoharie to a 6-3 victory over Canajoharie Thursday, Oct. 11, in a Western Athletic Conference boys soccer game.
Jacob Nowalk gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the first half, but Nathaniel Simmons headed in a corner kick and Daniel Bernhardt knocked in a rebound off a shot off the goal post to put the Indians ahead 2-1 by halftime.
Fagnani scored all three of his goals in the second half, as Schoharie pulled away for the victory. Skyler Jankowski added a goal for the Indians, while Nowalk and Braden Greenslete tallied for Canajoharie.
Schoharie goalkeeper Bailey Smart made seven saves, while Canajoharie netminder Jared Bentz stopped 13 shots.

The game was clouded by a injury suffered by ND-BG goalkeeper Cole Nelson when he hit his head against the far post while stopping a Schoharie shot in the second half. The Indians struck for two insurance goals following Nelson’s injury to create their margin of victory. ST. JOHNSVILLE – Six different players found the back of the net for Oppenheim-Ephretah-St. Johnsville in an 8-1 victory over Canajoharie Thursday, Aug. 30, in a Western Athletic Conference boys soccer game.
Jack Brundage recorded a hat trick and added a pair of assists for the Wolves (1-0), who led 5-0 at halftime. Zack Mosher, Andrew Snell, Tyler Leon, Jaedyn Logan Dillenbeck and Paetyn Logan Dillenbeck also tallied for OESJ, and Mason Snell added a pair of assists.
Alex Blanchard broke up OESJ’s shutout bid in the second half for Canajoharie. Cougars’ goalkeeper Jared Bentz stopped 12 shots.
