TROY – A pitcher’s duel turned into a runaway victory for Shenendehowa.
The Plainsmen scored six runs in the top of the ninth inning to defeat Niskayuna 7-1 for the Section 2 Class AA baseball title Monday, June 3 at Joseph Bruno Stadium.
Jake Reinisch got the ninth-inning rally started with an RBI triple to plate pinch runner C.J. Latham with the go-ahead run. Niskayuna nearly got out of the jam allowing just the one run, but back-to-back bases-loaded singles by Sam Law and Patrick McGuire plated three more runs. Law and McGuire then scored on a wild pitch by Cole Hedden to give the Plainsmen a 7-1 lead. Top-seeded Niskayuna scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning on its way to a 10-4 victory over No. 8 Bethlehem in the Section 2 Class AA baseball quarterfinals Saturday, May 25.
Aaron Whitley and Chris Erickson each homered to lead Niskayuna’s 12-hit attack. Whitley finished with three hits, while Erickson went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Starting pitcher Cole Hedden helped his own cause with two doubles and three RBI.

Tommy Stewart’s RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Niskayuna a 7-6 victory over Christian Brothers Academy Monday, May 20, in a Suburban Council baseball game.
Peter O’Toole’s three-run homer highlighted CBA’s four-run seventh inning rally that tied the score at 6-6. But, Niskayuna got the winning run across to close out its regular season with a 12-4 league record and an overall record of 13-5.
Aaron Whitley posted a four-hit afternoon for Niskayuna, including a two-run homer and a two-run triple. Jake Reinisch hit an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Shenendehowa a 4-3 victory over Columbia Monday, May 6, in a Suburban Council baseball game.
The Plainsmen took a 1-0 lead on Ben Lavery’s RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, but the Blue Devils plated three runs in the top of the fifth to pull ahead 3-1. Ryan Strevell plated the go-ahead run for Columbia with an RBI single.
Lavery hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull Shen within one run, and Thomas Krill tied the game with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning. Pitcher Evan Jones held Saratoga Springs to one run on two hits and struck out six in a complete-game performance to help Shenendehowa defeat the Blue Streaks 3-1 Thursday, April 11, in a Suburban Council baseball game.
Three Saratoga Springs pitchers limited Shen to three runs on five hits and combined to strike out seven batters. Alex Henderson took the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in 4.2 innings of work.
Leadoff hitter Brendan Disonell had two singles and drove in a run for Shen. Jake Reinisch walked twice and had an RBI, while Jones and Nick Lemire each had a hit and a run scored.
