Academy of the Holy Names junior Ava Panto was named the Player of the Year when the Colonial Council announced its girls soccer all-stars Wednesday, Nov. 7.
Panto scored a team-high 38 goals and added eight assists to help Holy Names win the Colonial Council Liberty Division and the Section 2 Class B titles.
Four more Holy Names players – Megan Marini, Bella Tronco, Marissa DeMartino and Grace Field – were named first team all-stars. ALBANY – Academy of the Holy Names turned on the afterburners in the second half to pull away for a 9-0 victory over Lansingburgh Friday, Oct. 12, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.
Bella Tronco tallied twice in the second half on her way to recording a hat trick for Holy Names. Ava Panto tallied a goal in each half and contributed two assists, while Megan Marini registered a goal and three assists.
Marissa DeMartino, Riley Taylor and Grace Field also scored goals for Holy Names, which tallied six times in the second half. Goalkeepers Kathleen Harris and Megan Bell stopped a combined total of three shots.
Goalie Jillian Currier had 11 saves for Lansingburgh.
ROTTERDAM – Eight different players scored goals for Schalmont in a 9-0 victory over Ichabod Crane Thursday, Oct. 11, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.
Sofia Cassano had two goals and an assist to lead a balanced Sabre attack. Davia Rossi and Jules Monlea each contributed a goal and an assist, while Eden Messemer, Isabella Amoroso, Kasey Dillenbeck, Isabella Almodovar and Teghan Older all added goals. Kelly Sanders, Ashley Cirilla, Sophia Pasquarella and Simone Cassano chipped in with assists.
Cali Ringwood stopped 12 shots on goal for Ichabod Crane.
Two late goals helped Academy of the Holy Names escape Mohonasen with a 2-0 victory Tuesday, Oct. 9, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.
The two teams were locked in a scoreless duel until Megan Marini curled a corner kick into the goal with 6:58 left in the second half. Bella Tronco then added an insurance goal with 1:02 remaining in regulation to seal Holy Names’ victory.
Mohonasen goalkeeper Megan Hart did her best to keep Holy Names off the scoreboard. Hart stopped 15 of the 17 shots on goal she faced. Holy Names netminder Kathleen Harris recorded five saves for the shutout.
Holy Names moved ahead of Schalmont in the New York State Sportswriters Association’s girls soccer poll this week, following its 2-1 victory over the previously top-ranked Sabres last week. Holy Names is ranked No. 3 in Class B, while Schalmont slips to No. 4.

Sofia Cassano contributed a goal and an assist, and Alison Waldron tallied once for the Sabres. Goalkeepers Eden Messemer and Kierstin Lynch stopped a combined total of 14 shots.
Goalie Makenzie Kunkle had 28 saves for Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk.
ROTTERDAM – Two of the top four-ranked Class B girls soccer teams in New York State met for the second time this season.
When all was said and done, Academy of the Holy Names (No. 4) rallied for a 2-1 victory over top-ranked Schalmont Wednesday, Oct. 3, in a Colonial Council contest.
Unlike the first meeting between the two teams – won by Schalmont 4-1 on Sept. 2 (click here for the story and a photo gallery) – Holy Names did not back down after Schalmont took the lead on Ashley Cirilla’s unassisted goal early in the second half. Megan Marini scored the equalizer less than 11 minutes later off a pass from Ava Panto, and Panto notched the game winner off Marini’s assist with 16:46 remaining in regulation.
Holy Names goalkeeper Kathleen Harris stopped 10 shots, while Schalmont netminder Eden Messemer had 10 saves.

Ava Panto scored four goals and added an assist to lead Academy of the Holy Names to an 8-0 victory over Cohoes Saturday, Sept. 29, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.
All four of Panto’s goals came in the second half as Holy Names pulled away from Cohoes. Megan Marini contributed two goals and an assist, while Grace Field and Bella Tronco added goals.
Kathleen Harris made four saves in goal to pick up the shutout for Holy Names.
Two of the top Class B girls soccer teams in New York State continued their dominance over Colonial Council competition Wednesday, Sept. 26.
Top-ranked Schalmont defeated Cobleskill-Richmondville 10-0, while fifth-ranked Academy of the Holy Names downed Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk 7-0.
Sofia Cassano and Ashley Cirilla each recorded hat tricks to lead Schalmont past Cobleskill-Richmondville. Jules Monlea, Gianna Viscusi and Simone Cassano also tallied for the Sabres.
Goalkeeper Sydney Dymes made 15 saves for Cobleskill-Richmondville.
Holy Names used a balanced attack to defeat RCS. Ava Panto tallied three times, while Suzi Smith, Libby Harris and Megan Marini all contributed a goal and an assist for Holy Names. Sam Germano also scored a goal, while goalies Kathleen Harris and Megan Bell stopped a combined total of four shots for the shutout.
Liv Raucci’s four-goal, three-assist performance led Mohonasen to a 10-0 victory over Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk Monday, Sept. 24, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.
Izzy O’Clair contributed a hat trick and two assists for the Mighty Warriors. Hailey Dunsmore and Matti Swan each chipped in with a goal and an assist, and Courtney Bush added a goal.
Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk goalkeeper Makenzie Kunkle had nine saves.
