Colonial Council girls soccer coaches name Ava Panto Player of the Year

Academy of the Holy Names junior Ava Panto was named the Player of the Year when the Colonial Council announced its girls soccer all-stars Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Panto scored a team-high 38 goals and added eight assists to help Holy Names win the Colonial Council Liberty Division and the Section 2 Class B titles.

Four more Holy Names players – Megan Marini, Bella Tronco, Marissa DeMartino and Grace Field – were named first team all-stars. Schalmont, Holy Names advance to Section 2 Class B girls soccer final

Schalmont and Academy of Holy Names will meet for a third time on the soccer pitch this season – this time, for the Section 2 Class B title.

No. 2 Schalmont pulled out a 6-4 victory over No. 3 Voorheesville in one semifinal Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Lansingburgh High School, while top-seeded Holy Names pulled away for a 5-0 victory over No. 4 Mechanicville in the other semifinal.

Sofia Cassano scored two goals and added an assist, and Davia Rossi contributed three assists for Schalmont in its victory over Voorheesville. Vanessa Wainwright also tallied twice, while Ashley Cirilla and Jules Monlea each had a goal and an assist. Goalkeeper Eden Messemer made 12 saves. Section 2 Class B girls soccer playoffs: Schalmont, Voorheesville among opening round winners

Five players had multi-goal games for No. 2 Schalmont in a 15-0 victory over No. 15 Corinth in the opening round of the Section 2 Class B girls soccer playoffs Thursday, Oct. 18.

Isabella Amoroso recorded a hat trick and two assists, while Sofia Cassano contributed two goals and two assists for the Sabres (15-1-1), ranked No. 4 among Class B teams in the New York State Sportswriters Association poll. Jules Monlea, Ashley Cirilla and Chloe Schaffer all tallied twice, and Isabella Almodovar added three assists. Colonial Council girls soccer: Schalmont eases past Ichabod Crane

ROTTERDAM – Eight different players scored goals for Schalmont in a 9-0 victory over Ichabod Crane Thursday, Oct. 11, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.

Sofia Cassano had two goals and an assist to lead a balanced Sabre attack. Davia Rossi and Jules Monlea each contributed a goal and an assist, while Eden Messemer, Isabella Amoroso, Kasey Dillenbeck, Isabella Almodovar and Teghan Older all added goals. Kelly Sanders, Ashley Cirilla, Sophia Pasquarella and Simone Cassano chipped in with assists.

Cali Ringwood stopped 12 shots on goal for Ichabod Crane.

Non-league girls soccer: Lake George, Schalmont earn out-of-section victories

Section 2 girls soccer powers Lake George and Schalmont ventured out of the region Saturday, Sept. 8, to face teams from other parts of New York.

Academy of the Holy Names turned aside Colonial Council newcomer Mohonasen 2-0 in a girls soccer game Thursday, Sept. 6.

Libby Harris headed in Ava Panto’s cross in the first half to give Holy Names a 1-0 lead. Grace Field then scored off a pass from Bella Tronco in the second half to provide the insurance goal. ALBANY – Davia Rossi scored the go-ahead goal late in the first half, and Schalmont pulled away for a 4-1 victory over Academy of the Holy Names Thursday, Aug. 30, in a showdown of Colonial Council girls soccer powers.

Vanessa Wainwright gave the visiting Sabres a 1-0 lead early in the first half. Ava Panto responded less than five minutes later for Holy Names off a feed from Bella Tronco before Rossi headed in Wainwright’s corner kick to give Schalmont the lead for good.

Sofia Cassano and Jules Monlea added second half tallies for the Sabres (2-0). Goaltender Eden Messemer had four saves.

Megan Bell notched four saves in goal for Holy Names.
