Academy of the Holy Names junior Ava Panto was named the Player of the Year when the Colonial Council announced its girls soccer all-stars Wednesday, Nov. 7.
Panto scored a team-high 38 goals and added eight assists to help Holy Names win the Colonial Council Liberty Division and the Section 2 Class B titles.
Four more Holy Names players – Megan Marini, Bella Tronco, Marissa DeMartino and Grace Field – were named first team all-stars. Five players had multi-goal games for No. 2 Schalmont in a 15-0 victory over No. 15 Corinth in the opening round of the Section 2 Class B girls soccer playoffs Thursday, Oct. 18.
Isabella Amoroso recorded a hat trick and two assists, while Sofia Cassano contributed two goals and two assists for the Sabres (15-1-1), ranked No. 4 among Class B teams in the New York State Sportswriters Association poll. Jules Monlea, Ashley Cirilla and Chloe Schaffer all tallied twice, and Isabella Almodovar added three assists. Schalmont used a balanced attack to defeat Catholic Central 3-1 Monday, Oct. 1, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.

ALBANY – Megan Marini’s goal proved to be the game winner for Academy of the Holy Names in a 2-1 victory over Catholic Central Saturday, Sept. 22, in a Colonial Council girls soccer game.
Marini broke a 1-1 tie with a goal off a direct kick for Holy Names. Bella Tronco tallied in the first half on an individual effort.
Emily Drake had an unassisted goal in the first half, and goalkeeper Maddie Finn made 10 saves for Catholic Central.
TROY – Catholic Central pulled away for a 3-0 victory over Troy in a battle of two of the city’s girls high school soccer teams Tuesday, Sept. 18.
Emily Drake tallied in the first half to give Catholic Central a 1-0 lead. She later assisted on Madison Clermont’s second-half marker, and Claudia Fountain tallied on a second-half penalty kick for the Crusaders.
Goalkeeper Maddie Finn had 12 saves for Catholic Central, while Troy netminder Maddie Rifenberick stopped 14 shots.
