Defense was the name of the game Friday, Dec. 21, as Whitehall defeated Saratoga Central Catholic 34-24 in a non-league girls basketball contest.
After a sluggish first quarter, Whitehall outscored Saratoga Catholic 13-7 in the second quarter to grab the lead. Both teams continued to struggle getting shots to fall in the second half, but the Railroaders pulled away at the end for the 10-point victory.
Outlook for season: Bielert described the Lady Bulldogs as “an athletic team with talent in every position.”
“The midfielders are quick and know how to move the ball,” said Bielert. “The forwards are fast, good with the ball at their feet and can find the goal.”
Bielert said he is hopeful Cobleskill-Richmondville can be one of the Colonial Council’s elite teams this season.
“We want to finish in the top five for the Colonial Council,” he said. “However, we realize this season will be very competitive, and we are going to work hard to get wins. We are going to play an attacking style of soccer, with an emphasis on possession.”
