Section 2 hockey playoffs: GMSVS Storm pull away from NSA to advance

Four third-period goals propelled the No. 8 GMSVS Storm to a 6-2 victory over No. 9 Niskayuna/Schenectady/Albany in the opening round of the Section 2 Division 1 hockey playoffs Monday, Feb. 18, at the Schenectady County Recreational Facility in Glenville.

Storm goalie Allie Kelley stopped 33 of the 35 shots she faced to give her team their second Sectional victory in the last three years. Evan Carey notched a pair of goals, while Brendan Dunleavy and Mike Farina Jr. each contributed two assists. Alex Bzdell, Jayden Kelley, Cole Pasquini and TJ Pierce also tallied for the Storm.

CDHSHL: CBA rallies past Capital District as part of Times Union Center doublebill

Christian Brothers Academy scored three unanswered goals in the second period on its way to a 4-2 victory over the Capital District Jets in a Capital District High School Hockey League doubleheader Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Times Union Center in Albany.

David Clemenzi gave the Jets a 1-0 lead within the first two minutes of the first period, but Hunter Pemrick tallied with 2:31 left in the frame to knot the score at 1-1 for the Brothers. Pemrick, Ryan McMahon and Greg Beaulieu scored in the second period to put CBA ahead 4-1.

Capital District High School Hockey League: Shenendehowa strikes three times in third period to top Queensbury

Shenendehowa scored three goals in the third period to defeat Queensbury 5-2 Friday, Jan. 18, in a Capital District High School Hockey League game at the Clifton Park Arena.

Brennan Alheim and Cole Haldane each had a pair of goals and an assist for the Plainsmen (5-2-0 league, 9-4-1 overall). Goalie Kent Leighton stopped 25 of the 27 shots he faced.

CDHSHL: Hunter Caola’s goal lifts LaSalle past Capital District; Storm and Mohawks play to a tie

Hunter Caola’s goal with 7.5 seconds left in regulation gave LaSalle a 3-2 victory over the Capital District Jets Saturday, Dec. 22, in a Capital District High School Hockey League game at the Albany County Hockey Facility.

Noah Savastio tallied off an assist from Scott Matson with 5:03 remaining in the third period to tie the score at 2-2 for the Jets (0-6-0 league, 0-8-0 overall), but Caola knocked home a shot in the waning seconds to put the Cadets (2-3-0, 3-3-1) in front.

Mike Baker and Jack O’Bryan also tallied for LaSalle, while goalie Kyle McGee stopped 26 shots. Frankie Congiusta scored a goal for Capital District, and goalie Patrick Turnbull turned aside 29 shots.

Elsewhere in the CDHSHL, Niskayuna/Schenectady/Albany (3-1-1, 4-2-1) played the GMSVS Storm to a 3-3 tie at Union College. Kevin Abatto, Matt Trippany and Patrick Trippany notched the Mohawks’s goals, while Evan Carey, Brendan Dunleavy and Maddie LeBel tallied for the Storm (2-4-1, 3-5-2).

Capital District High School Hockey League: Storm edges Adirondack

GLENS FALLS – The GMSVS Storm notched the game-winning goal in overtime to defeat the Adirondack Rivermen 3-2 Tuesday, Dec. 11, in a Capital District High School Hockey League game at the Glens Falls Recreational Center.

Collin Lagios notched a goal and an assist, and Evan Carey contributed a pair of assists for the Storm (2-2-0 league, 3-3-1 overall). Alex Bzdell and Maddie LeBel also tallied, and goalie Allie Kelley stopped 18 shots to pick up the win.

Dupree Harris and Nate Scarincio tallied for Adirondack, and goalie Ben DiFiore had 23 saves.
