Colonial Council girls soccer coaches name Ava Panto Player of the Year

Academy of the Holy Names junior Ava Panto was named the Player of the Year when the Colonial Council announced its girls soccer all-stars Wednesday, Nov. 7.

Panto scored a team-high 38 goals and added eight assists to help Holy Names win the Colonial Council Liberty Division and the Section 2 Class B titles.

Four more Holy Names players – Megan Marini, Bella Tronco, Marissa DeMartino and Grace Field – were named first team all-stars. Outlook for season: Bielert described the Lady Bulldogs as “an athletic team with talent in every position.”

“The midfielders are quick and know how to move the ball,” said Bielert. “The forwards are fast, good with the ball at their feet and can find the goal.”

Bielert said he is hopeful Cobleskill-Richmondville can be one of the Colonial Council’s elite teams this season.

“We want to finish in the top five for the Colonial Council,” he said. “However, we realize this season will be very competitive, and we are going to work hard to get wins. We are going to play an attacking style of soccer, with an emphasis on possession.”
