SYRACUSE – Lansingburgh turned in a dominating performance to win the Division 2 (small school) boys team title at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Bowling Championships Sunday, March 10.
The Knights knocked down 3,100 pins during the morning session and added an afternoon score of 3,113 to finish the tournament with a score of 6,213 – more than 300 pins ahead of runner-up Tonawanda (Section 6).
Codi Genthner and Michael Connally led Lansingburgh with strong all-around performances. Genthner recorded the best six-game series score of the day by rolling a score of 1,391, while Connally posted the third-best series with a 1,304. Connally had the high game for the Knights with a 259, while Genthner rolled a 258 during his series. Grant Laustrup added a 1,256 series and a high game of 245 for Lansingburgh.
Cohoes finished third in the Division 2 girls team standings with a score of 5,280. Dunkirk (Section 6) won the state title with a score of 5,671, 140 pins ahead of runner-up Newark (Section 5).
Kiersten Tague led the Lady Tigers with a six-game series of 1,170, which placed her sixth among all bowlers for the day. Abby Houser was 10th with a 1,124 series, which included a high game of 217. SCHENECTADY – Lansingburgh bested the field by more than 200 pins to take the team title at the Section 2 Class B boys bowling championships Friday, Feb. 8, at Boulevard Bowl.
The Knights had three bowlers record six-game series of more than 1,200 pins to win their 11th Sectional title with a total pin fall of 5,912. Mechanicville was second with a score of 5,634, and Schuylerville placed third with a score of 5,487.
Codi Genthner led Lansingburgh with a six-game total of 1,254, which included a high single game of 246. Mike Connally was second on the Knights with a total of 1,228 pins, which included a three-game set of 654, and Grant Laustrup added a six-game series of 1,203 that included a high single game of 254. After playing four consecutive overtime contests, Schalmont cruised to a 5-0 Senior Night victory over Lansingburgh Tuesday, Oct. 9, in a Colonial Council boys soccer game.
Underclassment led the way for the Sabres (12-1-2). Hamza Noor scored seven minutes into the contest off a rebound, and freshman Drew Kuzek tallied off a feed from Matt Horwedel to give Schalmont a 2-0 lead at the half.
Sophomore Ryan Edwards buried a tough-angle shot into the upper corner of the net 13 minutes into the second half to put Schalmont ahead 3-0. Noor tallied 30 seconds later off a pass from Edwards, and Kusek added his second goal of the evening later in the half to finish the scoring.
Goalkeeper Grant Laustrup had 11 saves for Lansingburgh.
