Very little has changed in the Class B football ranks for 2019. The lone addition is Holy Trinity, which moved up from Class C after adding players from Bishop Maginn to its fold. Holy Trinity will play in the Reinfurt Division.

No Class B teams from 2018 moved up or down a level, which means the divisions are virtually unchanged.

Joseph Girard III named Class B football Co-Player of the Year in New York state

Glens Falls quarterback Joseph Girard III was named the Class B Co-Player of the Year for the second year in a row when the New York State Sportswriters Association revealed its small school all-state football teams Tuesday, Jan. 8.

Girard threw for 3,084 yards and 36 touchdowns against six interceptions to lead the Indians to their second state Class B title in three years. He also carried the ball 107 times for 395 yards and 13 touchdowns, and he had three touchdowns on defense and special teams.

Girard split Player of the Year honors with Batavia running back Ray Leach, who set Section 5 records for rushing yards, touchdowns and points scored in leading the Blue Devils to the state final against Glens Falls.

Glens Falls kicker Sam Hogan and Hudson linebacker Spencer Goldstein were first team all-state selections in Class B. Section 2 football playoff brackets are partially set

By ROB JONAS

The playoff seedings for the Section 2 Class A, C and D football playoffs are set, but Class AA and B match-ups are still in the air following Sunday’s seeding meeting.

Shaker (7-0) will be the No. 1 seed in Class AA when the four-team playoff begins Oct. 26, while Shenendehowa (6-1) and Saratoga Springs (6-1) will battle each other Friday, Oct. 19, for the No. 2 seed. The No. 4 seed is up for grabs between Guilderland (4-3), Bethlehem (3-4), Christian Brothers Academy (3-4) and Niskayuna (3-4). A Guilderland victory over CBA Friday guarantees the Dutchmen the No. 4 seed, while a CBA win plus Niskayuna and Bethlehem wins would create a four-way tie for fourth place. Hudson football team is ready to contend for Reinfurt Division title again

Hudson

Head coach: John Davi

Last year’s record: 5-4

Playoff result: lost in Class B quarterfinals

Returning starters: Spencer Goldstein (senior OL/LB), Nick Bernockie (senior TE/DL), Corey Topple (senior QB/LB), Charles Goodermote (senior WR/DB), Tristen Collins (senior OL/DL), Tyler Bleau (senior RB/LB)

Graduated: Willie Walker (RB/LB), Zach Wilburn (QB/LB)

Newcomers: Mike Green (sophomore WR/DB), James Robinson (junior RB/LB), Zyonn Clanton (junior RB/DL)

Outlook for season: After falling short in its bid for the Reinfurt Division title and suffering a quarterfinal loss in Sectionals, the Blue Hawks need things to go right this year in order to get back to the playoffs.

Our season will hinge on us staying healthy,” said Davi. “Low numbers leave us with little depth. We have an athletic and talented group, and a solid line on both sides of the ball.”
