After winning the longest game in New York State Public High School Athletic Association softball tournament history, Ballston Spa fell to Section 6’s Williamsville East 3-0 in the Class A final Saturday at Moreau Recreational Park.
Williamsville East hit two home runs to start the the fifth inning, and Summer Clark recorded nine consecutive outs to seal the victory.
To get to the final, Ballston Spa outlasted Sayville (Section 11) 2-1 in a 20-inning epic that shattered the previous record for the longest game at the state tournament by seven innings. Ana Gold smacked an RBI single in the bottom of the 20th inning to propel the Scotties into the final for the second consecutive year. Shenendehowa (Class AA), Ballston Spa (A), Ichabod Crane (B), Chatham (C) and Whitehall (D) are the No. 1 seeds in their respective classes for the 2019 Section 2 softball tournament.
The playoffs kick off Thursday, May 23, with preliminary round games in classes A, B and C. The quarterfinals take place Tuesday, May 28, and all five finals will be played Tuesday, June 4.

ROTTERDAM – Mohonasen scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings to pull away for a 5-1 victory over Ichabod Crane Wednesday, April 10, in a Colonial Council softball game.
The Mighty Warriors grabbed a 1-0 lead on Michaela Arcate’s RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. A Mohonasen error in the top of the fourth helped Ichabod Crane tie the score at 1-1, but two Rider miscues in the bottom half of the inning allowed the Mighty Warriors to take the lead for good.
