Section 2 represented on New York State Sportswriters Association’s All-State softball team

Several Section 2 players were first-team selections in their respective classes on this year’s New York State Sportswriters Association All-State softball team.

Shenendehowa outfielder Emily Carroll (Class AA), Ballston Spa’s Lauren Kersch and Angelina Stile (Class A), South Glens Falls’ Leah Vanderwarker (Class A), Ichabod Crane’s Bella Milazzo and Gabbie Cox (Class B), Lake George pitcher Tyler Bergman (Class C), Chatham pitcher Jenna Skype (Class C), Whitehall pitcher Madison Gould (Class D) and Fort Ann pitcher Kayla Bailey (Class D) earned first-team honors.

WAC softball: Two triples and a home run fuel Canajoharie’s victory over BKW

Canajoharie rapped out 19 hits in a 20-9 Western Athletic Conference softball victory over Berne-Knox-Westerlo Wednesday, April 3.

McKenzie Bowerman belted a home run, while Alex Lathers and Molly Krug each contributed a triple for the Cougars, who rallied from an early deficit to post the victory. Section 2 girls basketball: Juliana Paddock’s three-pointer lifts Loudonville Christian past Northville

Juliana Paddock hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Loudonville Christian a 51-50 victory over Northville in a non-league girls basketball game Tuesday, Jan. 22, in Loudonville.

The Eagles built a 28-15 halftime lead, but the Falcons stormed back with a 23-9 run in the third quarter to grab a 38-37 advantage. The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle before Paddock’s three-pointer gave Loudonville Christian the victory.

Paddock finished with eight points, while Genevieve Swanson netted 16 points for the Eagles. Victoria Ralston contributed 11 points, and Abbey Woods added 10 points.
