Suburban Council baseball: Jake Reinisch’s RBI double lifts Shenendehowa past Columbia

Jake Reinisch hit an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Shenendehowa a 4-3 victory over Columbia Monday, May 6, in a Suburban Council baseball game.

The Plainsmen took a 1-0 lead on Ben Lavery’s RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, but the Blue Devils plated three runs in the top of the fifth to pull ahead 3-1. Ryan Strevell plated the go-ahead run for Columbia with an RBI single.

Lavery hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull Shen within one run, and Thomas Krill tied the game with a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning. Suburban Council baseball: Niskayuna remains undefeated in league play with victory over Schenectady

Niskayuna scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull away for an 11-4 victory over Schenectady Wednesday, April 17, in a Suburban Council baseball game.

Aaron Whitley belted a three-run homer to highlight the Silver Warriors’ scoring spurt. Chris Erickson doubled, tripled and drove in three runs, while James Murphy, Tim Schaffer and Jack Murray all contributed a pair of hits.

Suburban Council baseball: Shenendehowa fends off Saratoga Springs in pitchers’ duel

Pitcher Evan Jones held Saratoga Springs to one run on two hits and struck out six in a complete-game performance to help Shenendehowa defeat the Blue Streaks 3-1 Thursday, April 11, in a Suburban Council baseball game.

Three Saratoga Springs pitchers limited Shen to three runs on five hits and combined to strike out seven batters. Alex Henderson took the loss after giving up two runs on three hits in 4.2 innings of work.

Leadoff hitter Brendan Disonell had two singles and drove in a run for Shen. Jake Reinisch walked twice and had an RBI, while Jones and Nick Lemire each had a hit and a run scored.

Teams are set for Section 2 Dual Meet Wrestling Championships

The field is set for the Section 2 Dual Meet Wrestling Championships Tuesday, Jan. 15.

In Division 1, Shenendehowa received the No. 1 seed and the right to host the tournament. The Plainsmen will face No. 4 Queensbury, while No. 2 Columbia combats No. 3 Ballston Spa.

The Division 2 tournament takes place at Warrensburg, where the top-seeded Burghers wrestle No. 4 Whitehall/Fort Ann and No. 2 Watervliet takes on No. 3 Hadley-Luzerne/Lake George.

Suburban Council wrestling: Niskayuna pulls out victory over Saratoga Springs

Three consecutive pins late in the match helped the Niskayuna wrestling team defeat Saratoga Springs 42-36 Thursday, Jan. 3, in a Suburban Council dual meet.

Thomas Minehan (152 pounds), James Murphy (160) and Peter Meshkov (170) all recorded pins to give the Silver Warriors a 42-24 lead with two bouts to go. Willie Thacker (145) started the string of 22 unanswered points with an 18-8 majority decision over Patrick Spatafora to help Niskayuna overcome a 24-20 deficit.
