Several Section 2 players were first-team selections in their respective classes on this year’s New York State Sportswriters Association All-State softball team.
Shenendehowa outfielder Emily Carroll (Class AA), Ballston Spa’s Lauren Kersch and Angelina Stile (Class A), South Glens Falls’ Leah Vanderwarker (Class A), Ichabod Crane’s Bella Milazzo and Gabbie Cox (Class B), Lake George pitcher Tyler Bergman (Class C), Chatham pitcher Jenna Skype (Class C), Whitehall pitcher Madison Gould (Class D) and Fort Ann pitcher Kayla Bailey (Class D) earned first-team honors.

Whitehall used a 17-6 run in the second quarter to break open a close game on its way to a 46-24 victory over Fort Ann in an Adirondack League girls basketball game Thursday, Jan. 31.
The Railroaders shrugged off a slow start at the offensive end by limiting the Cardinals to four points in the first quarter. The second-quarter spurt allowed Whitehall to build a 26-10 halftime lead, and the Railroaders never looked back. Lake George’s Sarah Kohls was named the Player of the Year when the Adirondack League girls soccer coaches unveiled their all-star teams for the 2018 season Monday, Nov. 12.
Kohls scored 24 goals and added eight assists to lead Lake George to the league title and a Section 2 Class C semifinal appearance.
