Mechanicville’s Jeff Luce was named the most valuable offensive player, and teammate Justin Pugliese was selected as the most valuable defensive player by the Wasaren League boys soccer coaches when they announced the league’s all-star teams Saturday, Oct. 27.
Luce currently leads all Section 2 offensive players with 33 goals, to go along with eight assists. Pugliese led a Mechanicville defense that allowed a total of 20 goals this season, including seven shutouts.

Quarterfinal match-ups are now set in Class B, as eight boys soccer teams advanced to the next round of the Section 2 playoffs Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Top-seeded Schalmont (14-1-2) shut out Colonial Council rival Cohoes 4-0 in Rotterdam. Dom Scalice tallied twice for the Sabres, who shook off a slow start to pull away with three second-half goals. Zach Metzold and Dylan Martin also scored goals.

Tamarac closed out its regular season by shutting out Saratoga Central Catholic 1-0 Saturday, Oct. 13, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Rocco DiCarlo scored off an assist from Alex Bassey, and goalkeeper Tyler Nemjo made 10 saves to post the shutout for the Bengals. Spa Catholic netminder Preston Gardner stopped 12 shots.
Tamarac entered Saturday’s game off a 4-1 non-league loss to Schuylerville Friday, Oct. 12. Max Ali tallied the Bengals’ goal, while Mike Lanfear scored twice to lead the Black Horses. Nick Budesheim and Zach Saddlemire also notched goals for Schuylerville.
GREENWICH – Tamarac rallied from an early two-goal deficit to defeat Greenwich 4-2 Wednesday, Oct. 3, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Charlie Gartner assisted on AJ Rymph’s goal and then notched one of his own to give the Witches their lead within the first 15 minutes. An own goal against Greenwich and Alex Bassey’s marker pulled Tamarac even before halftime.
Max Ali put the Bengals ahead in the second half with a penalty kick, and Dylan Briccetti added an insurance goal off a direct kick.
Tamarac goalkeeper Tyler Nemjo stopped six shots, while Greenwich netminder Sam Whiting was credited with three saves.
In a game that featured 31 shots on goal, Cambridge held on for a 3-2 victory over Tamarac Monday, Oct. 1, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Austin Hackman scored one goal and assisted on two more to lead Cambridge to victory. Jordan Brown and Alex Hummel also tallied for the Indians, and goalkeeper Parker Robertson made 12 saves.
Max Ali and Dylan Briccetti each had a goal and an assist for Tamarac. Goalie Tyler Nemjo stopped 14 shots.

Scott Travis tapped in the winning goal four minutes into overtime to lift Stillwater to a 3-2 victory over Tamarac Monday, Sept. 17, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Travis was responsible for all of the Warriors’ goals. He headed in the first one off a corner kick from Grant Baker that tied the score at 1-1. Travis repeated the process a short time later, this time heading in a crossing pass from Jake Zdonick for a 2-1 Stillwater lead. Hunter Guertin had a foot in all three Waterford-Halfmoon goals in a 3-0 victory over Hoosic Valley Thursday, Sept. 13, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Guertin sent a crossing pass into the penalty box to Tyler Galarneau, who knocked the ball into the goal to give the Fordians a 1-0 lead at the 18-minute mark. Guertin tallied in the 31st minute to double Waterford-Halfmoon’s lead, and then he sent a crossing pass to Jason Cordts midway through the second half for the Fordians’ final goal. Mayfield scored two goals in the first half and held on for a 2-1 victory over Greenwich in its boys soccer tournament Saturday, Sept. 8.
Daniel Leach tallied 14 minutes into the game, and Josh Watson scored off Colbey Hime’s corner kick in the 32nd minute to give the Panthers the lead.
