Scenes from Section 2 boys basketball finals: Joseph Girard III leads Glens Falls past Schalmont

GLENS FALLS – Joseph Girard III would not be denied by Schalmont again.

JG3 poured in 52 points to lead Glens Falls to a 77-56 victory over Schalmont in the Section 2 Class B boys basketball final Friday, March 1, at the Cool Insuring Arena.

The Sabres built a 14-6 lead in the first quarter, but once Girard warmed up, there was little that they could do to stop him. The Syracuse University-bound senior guard nailed seven three-pointers and made 15 of his 16 free throws to help the Indians pull away for the 21-point victory and their second Sectional title in three years.

Wasaren League boys basketball: Hoosick Falls surges past Tamarac

Hoosick Falls outscored Tamarac 23-10 in the fourth quarter to pull away for a 65-52 victory Friday, Feb. 1, in a Wasaren League boys basketball game.

Jon Kempf and Max Kipp made a combined total of seven three-pointers to help the Panthers pull out the road win. Kempf finished with 22 points, and Kipp contributed 18 points, while Tristan Williams added 19 points for Hoosick Falls.

Hoosick Falls fends off Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons in non-league boys basketball game

Hoosick Falls started strong and then fended off a Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons rally to pull out a 62-55 victory Friday, Dec. 21, in a non-league boys basketball game.

The Panthers raced out to a 24-2 lead in the first quarter, only to see the Golden Knights respond with a 21-8 run in the second quarter to trim the deficit to nine points at halftime. Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons continued to hang around in the second half, but Hoosick Falls held on for the seven-point win.

Tristan Williams poured in 29 points, while Max Kipp and Jon Kempf each contributed 11 points for Hoosick Falls. Rodney Parker had 18 points, and Lorenzo Marchisio added 15 points for Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons. Wasaren League boys basketball: Frank Zotto’s big second half propels Tamarac past Greenwich

Frank Zotto scored 22 of his team-high 29 points in the second half to lead Tamarac to a 75-71 victory over Greenwich Friday, Dec. 14, in a Wasaren League boys basketball game.

Zotto scored 13 points in the third quarter alone to help the Bengals erase a two-point halftime deficit. Jacob DeFreest contributed seven points during the surge and finished with 17 points.
