Section 2 football: A first glance at Class C

We will be taking a look at the alignments and schedules for all five football classes in Section 2 this week. To read about Class D, click here.

Four Class C football programs are on the move to different classes in 2019, while two Class D teams jump in to replace them.

Holy Trinity moves up to Class B this fall after adding players from Bishop Maginn to its roster, which also includes players from Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons, Catholic Central and Saratoga Central Catholic. Meanwhile, Chatham and Helderberg Valley slide down to Class D, and Corinth merges with Fort Edward and moves to Class D, where it will be ineligible for the Section 2 playoffs. Scenes from Section 2 Class C football: Holy Trinity shuts out Mechanicville

SCHENECTADY – Ja-Del Whitfield rushed for two touchdowns to lead Holy Trinity to a 23-0 victory over Mechanicville Saturday, Oct. 6, in a Section 2 Class C football game played at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons.

Whitfield capped a first quarter drive with a 1-yard touchdown run and added a 5-yard scoring run in the third quarter to help the Pride (5-1) post their fourth consecutive victory. William Lawson kicked a 27-yard field goal to cap a second-quarter series, and Nelon Priest added a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter that sealed the victory. Quarterback Joe Tortello threw for 187 yards for Holy Trinity.

Scenes from Section 2 Class C football: Stillwater wins Indian Bowl against Mechanicville

Stillwater built a 13-0 lead in the first quarter on its way to a 29-6 victory over Mechanicville in the annual Indian Bowl Friday, Sept. 6, at Tamarac High School.
