SARATOGA SPRINGS – One race lived up to its pre-event billing, while another showdown never materialized at Friday’s Section 2 Cross Country Championships at a soggy Saratoga Spa State Park.
The Class A boys race turned into a battle royale between Shenendehowa and Saratoga Springs, with the Plainsmen pulling out a three-point victory over the Blue Streaks, 60-63. Saratoga had two of the top four runners in the race, but Shen’s pack mentality proved to be the deciding factor.

There were several noteworthy performances around Section 2 cross country from Sept. 22:
The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys cross country team took first place in the Varsity Large division at the Baldwinsville Invitational outside Syracuse on Saturday, Sept. 22. Tyler Berg, Evan Brennan and Aidan Gillooley swept the top three places for the Spartans, who won the division with 26 points. GUILDERLAND – The annual Guilderland Invitational cross country meet took place Saturday, Sept. 8, at Tawasentha Park. Approximately a dozen schools participated in the meet, including Guilderland, Averill Park and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake of the Suburban Council; Broadalbin-Perth and Schuylerville of the Foothills Council; Ichabod Crane and Mohonasen from the Colonial Council; and Chatham from the Patroon Conference.
