The Maple Hill girls basketball team took a 14-8 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in defeating Coxsackie-Athens 70-17 on the second day of the Patroon Conference Coaches vs. Cancer showcase Sunday, Jan. 27, at Columbia-Greene Community College.
Lauryn Smith led a balanced attack with 13 points for the Wildcats, who put the game out of reach by outscoring Coxsackie-Athens 56-9 over the final three quarters. Karsyn Berger contributed nine points, while three other Maple Hill players – Natasha Strock, Shannon Tacy and Abby Utter – all added eight points.

Maple Hill used a 16-3 run in the third quarter to pull away for a 58-36 victory over Catskill Tuesday, Jan. 15, in a Patroon Conference girls basketball game.
Lydia Chittenden and Natasha Strock each scored 14 points for the Wildcats, who led 28-24 at halftime. Lauryn Smith contributed 10 points in the victory.

Maple Hill hosted its annual Coaches vs. Cancer Day Saturday, Jan. 5, with a full day of basketball games.
After the modified and junior varsity squads played, it was time for the varsity boys and girls teams to face Patroon Conference rival Rensselaer. The boys basketball team took the court first and pulled away for a 53-37 victory over the Rams.
Maple Hill grabbed a 15-8 lead in the first quarter and padded its advantage by outscoring Rensselaer 28-16 over the next two periods. The Wildcats’ defense played a major role, as it limited the Rams to a total of 13 field goals over the full four quarters. Notre Dame of Utica defeated Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake 43-36 to win the inaugural Mohonasen Holiday Classic girls basketball tournament Saturday, Dec. 29.
Emma Sehring netted 20 points to lead Notre Dame to the seven-point win. Ajla Sedjic made three shots from beyond the three-point arc as part of a 10-point night.
Carlie Rzeszotarski had 17 points for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake.
In the consolation game, Mekeel Christian Academy fended off a late Mohonasen charge to win 48-41. Avery Mills scored 20 points, and Madison Show added 15 points for the Lions, who led by 13 points entering the fourth quarter. Notre Dame of Utica fended off a late rally to defeat Mohonasen 40-37 in the opening round of the inaugural Mohonasen Holiday Classic girls basketball tournament Friday, Dec. 28.
Notre Dame outscored Mohonasen 11-5 in the second quarter to build a 20-14 halftime lead. The Mighty Warriors closed the gap to one possession several times in the fourth quarter before running out of time.
Breanna Lott netted 16 points for Mohonasen, which meets Mekeel Christian Academy in the consolation round Saturday, Dec. 29. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake edged Mekeel Christian 43-41 in the other opening round game to advance to Saturday’s final against Notre Dame. Maple Hill’s defense limited Greenville to less than seven points in each quarter as the Wildcats pulled away for a 40-15 victory over the Spartans Wednesday, Dec. 12, in a Patroon Conference girls basketball game.
Maple Hill had a difficult time pulling away from Greenville in the first half, but the Wildcats broke the game open with a 16-6 run in the third quarter that gave them a 28-13 lead.
Natasha Strock had seven points, eight rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots to lead a balanced attack for Maple Hill, which remained undefeated after five league games. Paige Bleau and Lydia Chittenden each contributed six points.

Maple Hill built a 20-1 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 44-15 victory over Catskill Tuesday, Dec. 4, in a Patroon Conference girls basketball game.
Lydia Chittenden had 13 points to lead a balanced Maple Hill offense, while Natasha Strock pulled down 10 rebounds. Paige Bleau and Abby Utter each added six points for the Wildcats.
No player scored more than three points for Catskill.
SCHODACK – Maple Hill outscored Hudson 32-15 in the second half to pull away for a 50-35 victory over the BlueHawks in a Patroon Conference girls basketball game Wednesday, Nov. 28.
Hudson took a 19-18 lead into halftime, but Maple Hill went on a 17-9 run in the third quarter to grab an advantage it would not relinquish.
Natasha Strock netted 14 points, and Lydia Chittenden contributed 10 points for Maple Hill. Jenaya Robinson had 11 points for Hudson.
