Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys volleyball reaches state finals; girls teams bow out in pool play

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake boys volleyball team lost to Section 8 champion Bellmore-JFK in the Division 2 finals of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Capital Center in Albany.

Bellmore-JFK won the first two sets 25-21 and 25-22. BH-BL came back to win the third set 25-14 before Bellmore-JFK closed out the match with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.

BH-BL had a tough road to get to the finals. After splitting their first two games of pool play against Eden (Section 6), the Spartans played the Raiders in a tiebreaker set. BH-BL rallied from a 20-17 deficit to take a 23-21 lead and had two set points, but Eden rallied to win the tiebreaker 28-26. Section 2 teams get their pool play assignments for the NYSPHSAA girls volleyball tournament

GLENS FALLS – Pool play match-ups are set for this weekend’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Volleyball Championships at the Cool Insuring Arena.

No change to Class A football semifinal between Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Cornwall

Despite a snowy forecast for eastern New York State Thursday night into Friday, the Class A state football semifinal game scheduled between Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and Cornwall is still scheduled to be played Friday night at Middletown High School.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association announced a couple of changes to its weekend schedule Thursday. The Class D semifinal football game between Moriah and Haldane has been moved from Friday afternoon to Sunday due to the snowstorm, and it is moving the start time of the girls swimming and diving championships back two hours to avoid the possibility of people traveling during the height of the storm.

The Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake-Cornwall football game was the only one featuring a Section 2 champion scheduled for Friday. Class AA champion Shaker and Class B champion Glens Falls play their state semifinal contests Saturday at Middletown High School.

The NYSPHSAA boys and girls volleyball tournaments are scheduled to start Saturday. The boys tournament will be held at Albany’s Capital Center, while the girls volleyball tournament will be held at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls.

Five Section 2 teams advance to NYSPHSAA Girls Volleyball Championships with regional wins

Section 2 will be well represented at this weekend’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association Girls Volleyball Championships at Cool Insuring Arena.

All five Sectional representatives won their regional finals Saturday, Nov. 10, to qualify for the state tournament, which takes place Nov. 17 and 18 in Glens Falls.

Class AA champion Shenendehowa had the toughest challenge of regionals, as it needed four sets to defeat Section 3 champion Baldwinsville at Gloversville High School. The Plainswomen won the first two sets 27-25 and 25-22 before the Bees took the third set 25-22. Shen and Baldwinsville continued to battle back and forth before the Plainswomen closed out the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set. Girls volleyball regionals: Four Section 2 teams advance to next round

Four Section 2 girls volleyball teams reached the second round of state regionals with victories Tuesday, Nov. 6.

Class A representative Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake had little trouble with Section 3’s Jamesville-DeWitt, as the Spartans won 25-7, 25-9 and 25-16 to set up a regional final match against Section 10’s Massena Saturday, Nov. 10. Carlie Rzeszotarski recorded 10 kills and two blocks, while Claire Isaksen contributed 31 assists for BH-BL. Grace Isaksen led the defensive effort with 19 digs.
