Liam O’Mara runs through Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake to lead Queensbury to Grasso Division title

BURNT HILLS – Liam O’Mara stepped up in the biggest football game of the season for Queensbury.

The senior rushed for 180 yards and scored all of the Spartans’ points in a 42-21 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Friday, Oct. 12.

The victory clinched the Grasso Division title and home field advantage for the first two rounds of the Section 2 Class A playoffs for Queensbury (6-0 division, 7-1 overall), while dropping Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (5-1, 6-1) into the No. 2 seed. Section 2 Class A football: Scotia-Glenville clinches a playoff berth with a victory over Gloversville

Scotia-Glenville clinched fourth place in the Grasso Division and a Section 2 Class A football playoff berth with a 40-21 victory over Gloversville Friday, Oct. 12.

Scenes from Section 2 Class A football: Liam O’Mara’s big night leads Queensbury past Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake

BURNT HILLS – Liam O’Mara rushed for 180 yards, six touchdowns and three two-point conversions to lead Queensbury to a 42-21 victory over Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake and the Section 2 Class A Grasso Division title Friday, Oct. 12.

Queensbury (6-0 division, 7-1 overall) took a 14-8 lead in the first half and pulled away with three unanswered touchdowns in the second half to wrap up home field advantage through the first two rounds of the upcoming Sectional playoffs.

Quarterback Darien LaPietro had a pair of touchdown passes to Rece Gobel for Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (6-1, 7-1), which will have the No. 2 seed from the Grasso Division and a first-round home playoff game next weekend. Section 2 Class A football: Gloversville rallies past Mohonasen for first win of the season

Gloversville overcame a 20-14 halftime deficit to defeat Mohonasen 34-26 Friday, Oct. 5, in a Section 2 Class A football game.

Section 2 Class A football: Queensbury rolls past Gloversville

Queensbury scored five touchdowns in the first quarter and rolled to a 68-7 victory over Gloversville Friday, Sept. 28, in a Section 2 Class A football game.

Liam O’Mara had touchdown runs of 32 and 26 yards to start the game, and then he returned a punt 50 yards for another six points to help Queensbury jump out to a 21-0 lead. O’Mara finished with 92 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Sean O’Connor contributed 93 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Spartans, who outgained Gloversville 385-142. Nate Angell and Joseph Slattery added scoring runs in the first half.

Petey Raldiris ran for 41 yards and caught a 78-yard touchdown pass from Julien Deumaga for Gloversville.

Section 2 Class A football: Averill Park runs over Columbia in battle of neighbors

EAST GREENBUSH – As Suburban Council rivals, Averill Park and Columbia play against each other in virtually every varsity sport. Gridiron meetings have been rare in recent years, though, because football leagues are determined by class level.

Until this season, Columbia had been a Class AA football team, while Averill Park was in Class A. The only way the neighboring schools could have met was in a crossover game after the regular season concluded. EAST GREENBUSH – Two touchdowns in the first quarter propelled Averill Park (5-0) to a 34-0 victory over Columbia (3-2) Friday, Sept. 28, in a Section 2 Class A football game.

Averill Park quarterback Anthony Childrose had two touchdown runs and a touchdown pass to lead the way. The Warriors also forced two Columbia turnovers that they turned into scoring drives, blocked a punt and deflected another. Section 2 Class A football: South Glens Falls runs past Gloversville

South Glens Falls running backs gained 345 yards to lead the Bulldogs to a 49-0 victory over Gloversville Friday, Sept. 21, in a Section 2 Class A football game.

Ben Sperry scored two touchdowns and rushed for 45 yards for the Bulldogs (1-3), who also limited Gloversville (0-4) to 110 total yards of offense. Joshua Ahrens had a 56-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Noah Benson returned an interception 45 yards for a pick six.

ROTTERDAM – Scotia-Glenville’s defense made a second quarter touchdown pass stand in a 7-0 victory over Mohonasen Friday, Sept. 21, in a Section 2 Class A football game.

Tyler Ellwanger had two interceptions, including one late in the fourth quarter that ended a Mohonasen drive deep in Scotia-Glenville territory. Dante Coppola also picked off a pass.

Class A football: Jason McCarthy’s five touchdowns propel Ballston Spa past Gloversville in make-up game

BALLSTON SPA – Tailback Jason McCarthy rushed for 137 yards and five touchdowns to lead Ballston Spa to a 41-6 victory over Gloversville in a Class A football game Monday, Sept. 10.
