No. 3 Watervliet jumped out to a 23-14 lead in the first quarter and kept its foot on the gas pedal on its way to a 101-56 victory over No. 14 Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons Tuesday, Feb. 19, in a Section 2 Class B boys basketball playoff game.
Five Cannoneers reached double digits in the scoring column, led by Messiah Mallory’s 21-point performance. J.J. Chestnut and Khari Croley each contributed 19 points, and Derrick Beason added 16 points.

GLENS FALLS – The Cool Insuring Arena was once again home to a day of Section 2 basketball, as Mekeel Christian Academy hosted the Sunmark Shootout Saturday, Feb. 2.
In one of the best match-ups of the day, Schalmont upended Troy 78-76 in a battle of the top teams from the Colonial and Suburban councils. The Sabres built a five-point lead at the end of the third quarter, and then hung on as the Flying Horses rallied in the fourth quarter.
Shane O’Dell lit up the scoreboard with a 36-point night for Schalmont that included an 11-for-11 performance at the free throw line. LJ Randle dropped a pair of three-pointers on his way to a 19-point effort.
Latyce Faison sank four three-pointers and finished with 30 points for Troy, which suffered its second non-league loss of the season. Nazaire Merritt chipped in with 28 points, including four three-pointers of his own. SCHENECTADY – After an 18-day delay due to a leaky roof, Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons defeated Fort Plain 72-52 in a Western Athletic Conference boys basketball game Saturday, Jan. 26.
The Golden Knights built a 21-13 lead in the first quarter and broke the game open with a 21-point third quarter that put them ahead 53-36.
Rodney Parker had 22 points for ND-BG to lead three players in double digits. Noah Foster contributed 17 points, and Todd Williamson added 15 points.

FONDA – Fonda-Fultonville outscored Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons 33-19 over the course of the second and third quarters to defeat the Golden Knights 59-46 Friday, Jan. 18, in a Western Athletic Conference boys basketball game.
ND-BG contained Fonda-Fultonville’s leading scorer, Jackson Atty, to seven points, but several other Braves stepped up to propel their team to victory. Andrew Georgia netted 16 points, and John Mancini added 11 points for Fonda-Fultonville.

Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons built a 14-5 lead in the first quarter and pulled away for a 75-61 victory over Duanesburg in a Western Athletic Conference boys basketball game Tuesday, Jan. 15, in Schenectady.
Todd Williamson led four Golden Knights in double digits with 22 points. Lorenzo Marchisio scored 18 points, while Noah Foster contributed 13 points and Rodney Parker added 12 points.
Jakob Stahl drained four three-pointers on his way to an 18-point night for Duanesburg. Zack Gamache was equally proficient from beyond the three-point arc, as all 15 of his points came from five three-pointers. Brian Mallory added 12 points for the Eagles. Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons outscored Catholic Central 28-15 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 76-65 victory in a non-league boys basketball game Friday, Dec. 28, in Troy.
The Golden Knights opened the game on a 26-4 run to take what appeared to be an insurmountable lead. However, the Crusaders responded with a 27-10 run in the second quarter to get within striking distance and then took the lead at the end of the third quarter before falling behind again.
Rodney Parker had 25 points, and Todd Williamson contributed 22 points for Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons. Lorenzo Marchisio chipped in with 13 points, and Noah Foster added 11 points in the victory.

SCHENECTADY – Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons outscored Oppenheim-Ephretah/St. Johnsville 20-13 in the fourth quarter to pull out a 58-46 victory Tuesday, Dec. 4, in a Western Athletic Conference boys basketball game.
The Golden Knights overcame a sluggish start to build a 23-19 halftime lead against the Wolfpack. OESJ remained within striking distance in the third quarter before running out of gas down the stretch.

NISKAYUNA – Nick Benton’s 22-point night lifted Niskayuna past Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons 59-34 Thursday, Nov. 29, in a non-league boys basketball game.
Benton drained three of Niskayuna’s five three-pointers as the Silver Warriors cruised to their first win of the season. Richie Quinn contributed 12 points.

The junior joined five other quarterbacks in New York State high school football history in throwing eight touchdown passes in a single game, as he led the Pride to a 56-20 victory over Canajoharie-Fort Plain in a Section 2 Class C Central Division game at Notre Dame-Bishop Gibbons.
