No. 17 Hudson Falls went on a 23-8 run in the second quarter and held on for a 58-56 victory over No. 16 Cohoes in the opening round of the Section 2 Class B boys basketball playoffs Saturday, Feb. 15.
Riley Maddison netted 18 points, and Johnathan Beagle contributed 14 points for Hudson Falls, which led 32-23 at halftime. Troy Snyder and Jonathan LaSure each knocked down four three-pointers and finished with 18 points apiece for Cohoes. Hudson Falls advances to face No. 1 Schalmont Tuesday, Feb. 19, in Rotterdam.
In the other Class B opening-round game, No. 15 Greenville defeated No. 18 Broadalbin-Perth 71-51 to move on to the first round against No. 2 Glens Falls. Damien Fiducia netted 32 points for the Spartans, who led 22-11 after the first quarter. Keenan Mulholland sank five three-pointers to finish with 15 points.

Messiah Mallory and J.J. Chestnut combined to score 39 points to lead Watervliet to a 68-53 victory over Cohoes Tuesday, Feb. 5, in a Colonial Council boys basketball game.
Mallory did his damage near the basket as he poured in 20 points, while Chestnut made five three-pointers on his way to a 19-point night for the Cannoneers, who pulled away in the second half.

Mohonasen overcame a four-point halftime deficit to edge Lansingburgh 59-55 in a Colonial Council boys basketball game Friday, Jan. 25.
Chase Monroe had 24 points for the Mighty Warriors, who outscored the Knights 21-14 in the third quarter. Shawn Gillisslee contributed 18 points, and Duncan Tallman added 13 points.

J.J. Chestnut scored 22 points to lead the Cannoneers, who handed Mohonasen its first loss in its last eight games. Derrick Beason contributed 14 points, and Messiah Mallory added 13 points for Watervliet.

The Maple Hill boys basketball team moved into a tie with Catskill for first place in the Patroon Conference with a 73-60 over the Cats Wednesday, Jan. 16, in Schodack.
Nate Mannion and Quinn Pratico each scored 20 points for the Wildcats (9-2 league, 12-2 overall), who put the game out of reach with a 24-point fourth quarter. Rian Jewett added 11 points.

The Mighty Warriors built a 30-17 halftime lead before putting the game out of the Tigers’ reach with their third quarter burst.

Mechanicville built a 19-point lead by the end of the third quarter and cruised to a 61-49 victory over Cohoes Thursday, Dec. 20, in a non-league boys basketball game.
Nick Billert scored 16 points, and Devin Garland contributed 11 points for Mechanicville, which held a 31-20 halftime lead. Ivan Brajac netted 13 points, and Troy Snyder added 12 points for Cohoes.
In another non-league contest involving a Wasaren League team, Hoosic Valley defeated Galway 33-30. Isaac Carlo and Zach Ryan each scored nine points to lead Hoosic Valley in a defensive struggle. Mike Sowle had 10 points for Galway.

Duncan Tallman joined the 1,000-point club to lead Mohonasen to a 71-27 victory over Ichabod Crane Tuesday, Dec. 4, in a Colonial Council boys basketball game in Rotterdam.
Needing 21 points to hit the mark entering Tuesday’s game, Tallman drained four three-pointers on his way to a 27-point performance. Chase Monroe contributed nine points for the Mighty Warriors, who went on a 23-3 run in the third quarter to put the game out of Ichabod Crane’s reach.
Zach Kennedy had seven points for Ichabod Crane.
In another Colonial Council contest, Catholic Central built a 14-point halftime lead on its way to a 47-34 victory over Cohoes. Jackson Brown tallied 14 points, and Al’lon Walters chipped in with 13 points for the Crusaders. Troy Snyder netted 10 points for the Tigers.
