Mechanicville’s Jeff Luce was named the most valuable offensive player, and teammate Justin Pugliese was selected as the most valuable defensive player by the Wasaren League boys soccer coaches when they announced the league’s all-star teams Saturday, Oct. 27.
Luce currently leads all Section 2 offensive players with 33 goals, to go along with eight assists. Pugliese led a Mechanicville defense that allowed a total of 20 goals this season, including seven shutouts.

STILLWATER – Mechanciville rallied for a 2-1 victory over Waterford-Halfmoon in the Wasaren League Championship Saturday, Oct. 13, at Stillwater High School.
Tyler Galarneau scored on a rebound off Hunter Guertin’s direct kick to give the Fordians a 1-0 lead in the first half. Mechanicville’s Kevin Charette tallied midway through the second half to tie the score at 1-1, and Jeff Luce scored on a breakaway with two minutes left in regulation to put the Red Raiders ahead for good.
Mechanicville goalkeeper Zach White had four saves, while Waterford-Halfmoon netminder Bobby Valigorsky stopped 12 shots.
Tamarac closed out its regular season by shutting out Saratoga Central Catholic 1-0 Saturday, Oct. 13, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Rocco DiCarlo scored off an assist from Alex Bassey, and goalkeeper Tyler Nemjo made 10 saves to post the shutout for the Bengals. Spa Catholic netminder Preston Gardner stopped 12 shots.
Tamarac entered Saturday’s game off a 4-1 non-league loss to Schuylerville Friday, Oct. 12. Max Ali tallied the Bengals’ goal, while Mike Lanfear scored twice to lead the Black Horses. Nick Budesheim and Zach Saddlemire also notched goals for Schuylerville.
Hunter Guertin and Tyler Galarneau each scored a pair of goals to lead the Waterford-Halfmoon boys soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Saratoga Central Catholic on the Fordians’ Senior Night Wednesday, Oct. 10.
Guertin got Waterford-Halfmoon on the scoreboard quickly with a penalty kick six minutes into the contest. Galarneau unleashed a hard shot that eluded Spa Catholic goalkeeper Preston Famigletti in the 29th minute to put the Fordians ahead 2-0.
Galarneau struck early in the second half off a cross from Guertin to increase Waterford-Halfmoon’s advantage to three goals. Jack Munn tallied on a penalty kick to get Spa Catholic on the scoreboard, but Guertin responded with his second of the night from the penalty spot to make the score 4-1. Jaycen Janusz capped the scoring with a midair one touch off an arcing through ball from Guertin.
Famigletti made 10 saves for the Saints, while Fordians’ netminder Bobby Valigorsky stopped six shots.
WATERFORD – Hunter Guertin increased his team-leading goal total to 27 for the season as he led Waterford-Halfmoon to a 6-1 victory over Tamarac Saturday, Oct. 6, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Guertin recorded a natural hat trick to lead off the game, scoring the Fordians’ first three goals in the opening 27 minutes. The senior striker added his fourth goal midway through the second half.
Jason Cordts tallied in the final minute of the first half off a pass from Nate Powell, and Jack O’Brien launched a 25-yard shot that bounced off the goal post and into the net for the Fordians’ final goal.
Xander Gliosco notched Tamarac’s lone goal with nine minutes left in the second half.

WATERFORD – The Waterford-Halfmoon boys soccer team took over sole possession of first place in Division 2 of the Wasaren League with a 2-0 victory over Cambridge Wednesday, Oct. 3.
After 15 minutes of back-and-forth play, the Fordians (6-2-2 league, 14 points) grabbed the lead in the 16th minute when Tyler Galarneau scored amidst several Cambridge defenders. Hunter Guertin nearly made the score 2-0 a short time later when his free kick deflected straight down off the crossbar and landed on the goal line, but the ball stayed out of the net. GREENWICH – Tamarac rallied from an early two-goal deficit to defeat Greenwich 4-2 Wednesday, Oct. 3, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Charlie Gartner assisted on AJ Rymph’s goal and then notched one of his own to give the Witches their lead within the first 15 minutes. An own goal against Greenwich and Alex Bassey’s marker pulled Tamarac even before halftime.
Max Ali put the Bengals ahead in the second half with a penalty kick, and Dylan Briccetti added an insurance goal off a direct kick.
Tamarac goalkeeper Tyler Nemjo stopped six shots, while Greenwich netminder Sam Whiting was credited with three saves.
In a game that featured 31 shots on goal, Cambridge held on for a 3-2 victory over Tamarac Monday, Oct. 1, in a Wasaren League boys soccer game.
Austin Hackman scored one goal and assisted on two more to lead Cambridge to victory. Jordan Brown and Alex Hummel also tallied for the Indians, and goalkeeper Parker Robertson made 12 saves.
Max Ali and Dylan Briccetti each had a goal and an assist for Tamarac. Goalie Tyler Nemjo stopped 14 shots.
