About

DSC_0255Capital Region HS Sports is all about Section 2 varsity athletics; every school, and every sport. From the Suburban Council to the Adirondack and Central Hudson Valley leagues, from football and baseball to golf and indoor track, we will cover it all.

We’re doing this because there is a void developing in local high school sports coverage. Newspapers do not pay the same amount of attention to what is happening in Section 2 as they once did, primarily because they don’t have the resources to do so. This is unfortunate because there are so many talented athletes in our region that deserve coverage. We are on a mission to change that.

Capital Region HS Sports is founded by Rob Jonas, a local sportswriter with more than 25 years of experience covering high school athletics. Like others in his profession, he found himself at a career crossroads after being laid off from a newspaper. He created Capital Region HS Sports to continue his mission of providing top-notch coverage of Section 2 athletics.

One person cannot hope to cover every Section 2 school and sport alone, though. This is why Capital Region HS Sports is recruiting the next generation of sports reporters and photographers at every Section 2 school. The goal is to have a correspondent at every school reporting on a wide variety of contests. Each correspondent will learn the ins and outs of writing, interviewing and photography, so they can develop skills that they can use going forward.

Ultimately, Capital Region HS Sports is about being a one-stop resource for high school sports fans looking for the latest results, game stories and athlete features. We want to be the site you turn to when you want to know what’s going on in Section 2. At Capital Region HS Sports, our name is our game.
