James Mitchell’s penalty kick goal lifted Greenville to a 3-2 overtime victory over Taconic Hills in a Patroon Conference boys soccer game Thursday, Sept. 20.
Kolby Clegg gave Taconic Hills a 2-1 lead with a second-half goal off a pass from Nole Atwood, but Isaiah Edmonds’ shot on a set piece eluded the outstretched hands of backup goaltender Teagan Campion-Pratt to tie the score at 2-2 for Greenville.
The Spartans took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a controversial goal. Miles Weiss’ shot bounced around on the goal line and was secured by Taconic Hills’ netminder, but the referee ruled the ball crossed the face of the goal.
Bryce Atwood tallied early in the second half to tie the score at 1-1 for Taconic Hills, and then Clegg notched his go-ahead goal before Edmonds knotted the score for Greenville.
With the victory, the Spartans (4-3) swept their two-game season series from the first-place Titans (5-2).
