Section 2 Class AA girls soccer: Saratoga Springs advances with victory over Shaker; Shenendehowa, Bethlehem reach quarterfinals

Julia DiMenna recorded a natural hat trick to lead No. 4 Saratoga Springs to a 3-1 victory over No. 5 Shaker in the Section 2 Class AA girls soccer quarterfinals Friday, Oct. 19.

Megan Piser gave Shaker a 1-0 lead less than five minutes into the first half with an unassisted goal. DiMenna struck at the 38-minute mark to tie the score at 1-1 before halftime and then gave Saratoga the lead with a goal off Abby Ray’s assist 10:04 into the second half.

Saratoga advances to face top-seeded Bethlehem in the semifinals. The Lady Eagles defeated No. 8 Columbia 3-1 behind a pair of goals from Grace Hotaling. Kaiden Ring tallied for the Blue Devils, and goalkeeper Sage Smith stopped seven shots.

On the other side of the bracket, No. 2 Shenendehowa needed penalty kicks to oust No. 7 Colonie, and No. 3 Niskayuna shut out No. 6 Guilderland 2-0. Niskayuna and Shen meet in the semifinals Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Stillwater High School.
