Wasaren League boys basketball: A big second quarter propels Tamarac past Spa Catholic

Tamarac outscored Saratoga Central Catholic 24-10 in the second quarter to pull away for a 74-52 victory over the Saints Friday, Jan. 11, in a Wasaren League boys basketball game.

Brandon Napoli netted 18 points, and Anthony Ciampolillo contributed 12 points for Tamarac (5-2 league, 8-3 overall). Dan Honsinger was one of two players to score nine points for the Bengals, but it was his defensive work that made the difference as he limited Spa Catholic’s leading scorer, Jordan Catone, to two points.

Tim Barrett had 14 points, and Jake Welcome added 13 points for Spa Catholic.

Elsewhere in the Wasaren League, Hoosick Falls won the battle of the Hoosic(k)s with a 54-33 victory over Hoosic Valley. Jon Kempf scored 16 points, and Tristan Williams chipped in with 14 points for Hoosick Falls. Derek Eddy led Hoosic Valley with eight points.

Mechanicville jumped out to a 26-2 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 73-58 victory over Cambridge. Five Red Raiders reached double digits in scoring, led by 12 points apiece from Tyler Dion and Devin Garland. Anthony Attala and Peter Enzien each contributed 11 points, and Luci D’Ambro added 10 points.

Jeffrey Burke poured in 22 points for Cambridge.

Michael Talavera’s 20 points helped Waterford-Halfmoon defeat Greenwich 39-34. Bobby Valigorski contributed 15 points for the Fordians, who outscored the Witches 14-9 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.

Sam Howard led Greenwich with 10 points.
